    Teenage Gas Engineers

As a meter fitter you only carry out a visual inspection. ie ventilation for DFE fires, spillage, no cooker chain. All these require a warning notice, even the cooker chain. Unfortunately we cannot just give them a verbal notice. I find, on average 3 gas leaks per week, around 4 or 5 DFE fires...

I'm a gas meter fitter working for British Gas. I fit around 15 meters per day Mon-Fri. I work 9-4.30 on a self employed basis. I clear around £1200 after tax. Next week I will be working until around 6pm. That equates to around 45 hours per week, fitting 90 meters. That will leave me with...

I am a RGI about to form a limited company. Do you have to keep proof of the business mileage that you have done? ie fuel receipts? I have been told that you dont have to keep receipts by one person and another person has told me that I do need to keep the receipts. They were both...

Registering a company- what is the cheapest and easiest way?

20% initially yes, but i'll have to make the difference up at the end of the year. VAT registering to claim back VAT on van hire and other goods I buy. I know that I will have to charge customers VAT but think it will be worth it. Some jobs I can get away with I'm sure. Its gas meters btw.

Registering a company- what is the cheapest and easiest way?

had a look here http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/startingup/working-for-yourself.pdf I am confident that I will be paying 40% tax. Therefore it wouldn't be a good idea to go as a sole trader right? Would a limited company be better as I can pay myself a dividend etc? Also, to hire/lease a van...

leasing a van with poor credit rating

I need to lease a van but have poor credit rating. If my sister leases the van and lets me have it, can I count this as business expenses and offset? I am also going to become VAT registered so will be claiming that back for the van leasing. The van lease contract will be in my sisters...

VAT registered, pros and cons please??

Thanks so much, you've been very helpful. Just one more question. If I paid myself a dividend, would that be completely tax free and what is there to stop me paying myself a large enough dividend so I wouldn't have to pay any 40% tax. My earnings after expenses should be around 65000 per...
