varilight 2 gang dimmer - what the !!!

All I recall was that the yellow was in L2 on the old switch on its own. Does that mean it was redundant?

varilight 2 gang dimmer - what the !!!

They do. But a special slave unit is required according to the terrible leaflet. I have no need for the two way on this switch. Just two seperate lights with one switch each.

varilight 2 gang dimmer - what the !!!

Big mistake today! Took off a traditional 2 gang dimmer to put on a varilight remote dimmer.... Now left scratching my head how to put this on. there are two cables - the first has a red, black and earth. Second has red, black, yellow and earth. A single red cable too to feed the live is...

    Waste Stack Challenges...

As predicted, got home today and saw a little pond in the centre of my gravel driveway.... looks like the bath water has coem through the pipe. So a blocked / caved-in clay pipe sounds most likely. So I tried to dig it up, but it seems to be covered in concrete "to protect it" so I have a job...

    Waste Stack Challenges...

I have replaced taken off the air addmitance valve and the issue has gone away - I will buy a new one as either this one is bust or the issue is more confusing than I can get my head round.

    Waste Stack Challenges...

Out of the blue this week my waste stack has started to play up. The waste stack is fed by toilet, sink, bath etc. It has gone from working fine, to making some strange noises (literally vibrating) and slowly draining. When you flush the loo, the plug holes burp! Anyway, I have had the...

Replacing outside lights with a PIR sensor light

Hi all I have 2 outside lights that are both connected to one internal switch. I wanted to replace the light fittings as they are old and rusty - can I replace them with 2 lights that have PIRs (ie both connected and operated by single switch but they will come on independantly with their...

    New Project for a novice

The trench is on a slope so levelling the ground level will be hard.

    New Project for a novice

My novice status allows me to ask... Do you mean peg the internal side of the trench and use a long piece of baton and level to find a line? Then peg with string across the line etc?

    New Project for a novice

Woody - this makes sense - I'll top up to 150mm below gorund level and use 4 courses up to DPC. Another silly question - but I intend to get premixed concrete pumped in. Already got a good quote. Question is, will this be 'self levelling' ie will it naturally be uniform in level around the...

    New Project for a novice

I think the issue is the definition of 'ground level'. 150cm down from the ground level would leave me 20cm higher than the existing concrete foundation level. Less concrete means less cost

    New Project for a novice

Hi all - I'm building an extension. Not neccasarily to save money (although I don't have much so that helps), but because I want to learn! Anyway - I am stage 0 in the endeavour and have a few questions i was hoping to leverage your experience on. Foundations: existing house has one course...

Foundation next to underground drainage run

Do youmean use some ply as shutterings? How do I remove the ply afterwards - will it not be lockedin place by the concrete?

Foundation next to underground drainage run

yes - I need to relay the pipe first unfortunately I think - the existing pipe and manhole is sitting right on the corner of the proposed extension (where no lintel can cover)

Foundation next to underground drainage run

Hello I need to dig a run for an alteration to a drainage run - the underground pipe will run parallel to the new foundation. Issue i have is once I have dug out the drainage run and laid it, I then need to dig out the foundations. The two runs are so close that I suspect the back...
