    asbestos?

Thanks mate. I'll steer clear till the results come then get the pros in -- local tips won't touch it unfortunately.

    asbestos?

Hi -- can anyone tell just by looking if this is asbestos? It was lining the inside of a hearth, around a wood burning stove. I've ordered a proper testing kit but I'd like to know if I should be avoiding the room where the rest of it is while I wait for the kit to arrive.

    Laterals into soil pipe

Lovely, thank you so much for all your detailed help in this thread!

    Laterals into soil pipe

Oh that's definitely the simplest layout, thank you. With that layout in mind I think I just one other question -- would back inlet bottle gullies be the best choice for the Kitchen and Utility? -- just for simplicity's sake, then it's one straight run from the new bathroom inspection chamber to...

    Thermalite / aircrete

Thanks for the useful comments all! I was actually just speaking to a structural engineer this morning about an unrelated thing, and he mentioned that he'd just come from a house where they'd discovered that the thermalite blocks in their kitchen had cracked and were panicking -- he said he sees...

    Laterals into soil pipe

Or of course the kitchen and bathroom could both get their own chamber! Although they would be very close together.

    Laterals into soil pipe

If I've understood you rightly -- I'll take the Utility room out into the old inspection chamber (this will work fine), and then get the kitchen and bathroom out through the blockwork to join the existing soil pipe at a new inspection chamber...

    Thermalite / aircrete

I should have been more specific, sorry -- the construction notes say 'Thermalite Shield ... or similar' at the relevant points. Don't worry about a builder swapping in cheaper materials!- I'm buying things directly myself and just wanted to check that this was a place where the architects...

    Thermalite / aircrete

The planning notes from the architect recommend Thermalite Turbo and Shield lightweight blocks for the cavity walls. I've not used them before; they look great from an insulation and handling point of view, but a builder friend has said that he's had problems with them cracking in the past. He...

    Laterals into soil pipe

I'm building an extension where the house's existing soil pipe runs across the face of the building into a large inspection chamber with multiple inlets. Like this: Could you tell me what best practice would be with regards to the pipes coming from the house into the soil pipe? Would it be...
