    No EPC - Advice Please?

Thank you, I do realise that. But I wasn't really sure which sub forum to post in and this seemed like the closest. With regards to the other suggestions, I do realise that in the grand scheme of things this is a very insignificant cost. It is more the principle of it. I'll suggest to both the...

    No EPC - Advice Please?

Hi, Not sure if this is the correct place to post, but.... I purchased a property back in 2012, which I am now looking to sell. My estate agent has come to do the marketing and has found that there is no EPC registered for the property, despite it being a legal requirement to have one in order...

Right angle in cable run - is this OK?

I would say the best thing would be to put a fused spur / isolator where you were talking about putting a socket. That way you can easily switch off power to the TV if something goes wrong etc.

    Correct fitting for 3/8 Alkathene

Hi, I have what I believe is a 3/8 Black Alkathene feed (I measured it at around 17mm) to my 1980's built house. At the moment it goes into the stopcock (15mm copper on the other side), but this is seized so can't be turned off. I've fitted a new stopcock just downstream of it, but feel i...

Heating and hot water for granny annexe

We have a calor gas tank (underground) which I believe is loaned / leased. Not sure on the costs off the top of my head I'm afraid, but it's basically managed by calor themselves, they monitor the level of gas in the tank and fill it up when needed. Cylinders are another option, and probably a...

Heating and hot water for granny annexe

When we built our "Granny Annex" we went down the LPG / Combi boiler route (the main house is oil fired). It has worked out well for us over the past 5 years and provides plenty of hot water for a single shower and underfloor central heating. In our situation the annex is less than 20m away...

    Lutron lighting

Hi, I have installed a Lutron system in a Medium size house (I guess it's all relative) so I'll say a fairly standard 5 bedroom detached. It is a nice system to install, program and use. I would say probably one of the best I've used and if I could, I would have one in my own home, although I...

    Small generator for home use.

I am also beginning to think that this might be the best route to go down. I think I would actually have it so that the lighting and heating circuits were permanently running off this off-grid solar system (with a float charger for backup). Especially with the use of LED lighting, you could...

    Varilight 'Impulse' range

If they are the same as the other ranges, they are riveted. Edit - looking here: it looks like there is a plastic retainer behind it... hope this helps!

    Any Varilight copies kicking around?

I've got quite a few of the varilight dimmers in my house at the moment and had them in my previous house too. They are good and the aftersales service is good, I had one die after about 3 years and they replaced it no question. I got mine from here...

    My home automation

Thanks Dan, That is really helpful! My Home Automation is in it's early stages at the moment, just heating, irrigation, multi-room audio and a few outside lights involved at the moment. But I'm hoping to do something a bit more elaborate in a year or so when I plan to start on a new build...

    My home automation

A really inspirational installation you have there roasty, I have a few questions of interest. What are you using to control the lights in the rooms? Do you have some sort of lightswitch and if so, how have you implemented it? How reliable do you find the DMX dimmer solution? Do you find...

    Electricity monitors

It hasn't happened.... but it just puts your mind at ease if you do have the thought... Although not for everyone, being able to see ones usage in real time definitely makes you more conscious of how much energy you are using and therefore find ways to make savings.

    Electricity monitors

I use a current cost as well, so do my parents. We use it along with a "net smart" which uploads the data to the currentcost servers and allows you to see your usage online. I find it very useful to just make sure I've not left anything on. Especially when you have those horrible moments...

    My Complete DIY Rewire

As others have said, you really want a lot more of the grey sheathing removed - generally back to the point that the cables enter the box (through a grommet).
