power back up for water pump

could you not just use a UPS? You can get up to 5kva ones "off the shelf" for reasonable money. You can also add additional battery packs if you need to. I would say this would be the simplest solution? Edit: sorry, just seen that has already been suggested :)

    Memshield 2 availability/compatibility

Agreed, I never had a problem with this either. They come with a longer tab to hold the whole module onto the rail, just remove that and the cover that goes round the test button and it should just slide off.

    Memshield 2 availability/compatibility

Memshield 3 bits don't fit. I recently got a few RCBO's from my local Senate, but had to buy the breakers and the RCD modules separately (the RCD modules fit on top of the MCB's) They aren't cheap though - around £50 each IIRC Shame, because it's nice kit to work with.

    Neff oven fault

You'll probably be best doing an insulation resistance test on the elements. I would guess ( I don't know about this oven specifically) that it doesn't actually apply power to the element immediately, hence you're seeing the delay

Power USB device (Tablet) from light switch

I think MK discontinued them earlier this year unfortunately. There are Euro Module USB chargers available though - like this: http://www.euronetwork.co.uk/clip-in-modules/usb-charger-modules/usb-charger-module-white...

Three Phase Single Post Car Lift

I use an inverter in my garage to run a tyre fitting machine. It works really well, in some ways better than the intended three phase operation, because you can control the speed, direction and acceleration of the motor through the inverter (via external controls). Mine runs off a B16 RCBO...

    Photos Of The Mid-Week

It doesn't look like the neutrals go to the load side of the RCD's, but it wouldn't work atall if they didn't would it? There's 1.5mm cable on 32A MCB, 2.5mm RFC on 6A MCB

My electrician is worried about asbestos

Perhaps I should have expanded on "take a sample" a bit more - IF you read their site and go for the "testing kit", you get: •Easy to follow step by step instructions •Sealed, FFP3 rated, fold flat Disposable & Valved face mask •Sealed, Disposable Class 3 (Type 5 & 6) Asbestos fibre...

My electrician is worried about asbestos

I used test4asbestos.com before, very efficient (I had the results next day) You just take a sample of the suspect material, double bag it in sealed plastic bags, send it off to them ( I did it special delivery before 9am) They come back to you a few hours later with their findings...

4 rooms 4 power meters inside each room

If its primarily for heating? If so, what sort of heating is it and how is it cabled? IE does each heater have its own breaker in the cu?

    I have just decided that.....

Nothing to do with the service fuse really. Depends on what the pfc is on the installation

Building control an new consumer unit

It is a ridiculous amount of money for "notifying", but I guess if they didn't charge that then people wouldn't join the schemes.... And if it wasn't regulated like this then people who thought they could, would just DIY...

    Pump Conundrum

I'd definitely be looking at a decent DC-DC power supply. I built one to run a pc in a car once upon a time. No problems at all and far more efficient!

    New supply

I would have thought so too... surly just digging a trench 1m deep and 1km long is going to cost a few thousand!

    Need SIMPLE explanation of PFC

Really? With that Ze? Obviously it will depend upon the supply type, but surely if It was TN-C-S or TN-S, the PEFC and PSSC would be fairly similar and certainly not out to the degree of 10 times?

    Need SIMPLE explanation of PFC

If your ze is .28, your pfc should be around .8kA. It could be a little bit higher than that, but not to that degree. Do you know what type of supply you have? I would say it was recorded incorrectly. The PFC is calculated (usually by the test equipment) by measuring the impedance of...

    Cable size ?

You would be better off having the rcd in the outhouse, rather than the house consumer unit.

Cables under Floorboards on Ground Floor

Steel conduit would be sure to keep your cables safe from the above mentioned little Chaps, if they are a problem.
