    Does this sound sensible?

By saying permanent I mean it'll have to last the rest of my time as I won't be able to get it done again. I think the purpose of the battening is to provide a nice even/level surface, luckily I can get reproduction coving to replace the original

    Does this sound sensible?

£1500 to plasterboard the damaged area and blend it into the existing/remaining ceiling I'm not 'prescribing' but merely following the advice I've already been given & I started a new thread as I was hoping for more views and advice. Reading up on advice given on the site some say to put new...

How do you go from newly cleared, overgrown garden, to lawn and vegetable garden? (newbie)

    Does this sound sensible?

Following on from my last Thread http://www.diynot.com/diy/threads/lath-and-plaster-ceiling-collapse.444715/#post-3487811 We're trying to find the most cost-effective permanent repair. I've been quoted £1500 (ish) which is way out of our league (I'm disabled and unable to work) Another idea is...

    Lath and plaster ceiling collapse

They are not repair timbers just supports where the floorboards have been cut mid-joist, the house was a student let for a while. The only notches are where the c/h pipe & aerial leads go through. The pic with the brass elbow is actually within a window recess set into the 2' wide stone eternal...

    Lath and plaster ceiling collapse

Thank's for all the advice, I think it'll all have to come down as there is another iffy looking crack. I'll try and save the coving and perhaps get my teenage kids to strip it out this halfterm which should hopefully reduce the cost.

    Lath and plaster ceiling collapse

There was nothing exceptional happening at the house or outside, (we have no passing traffic). There is definitely no water involved either now or in the past, there are central heating pipes above but no sign at all of any leaks. No tap-dancing BUT the bedroom above the sitting room is occupied...
