Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell vs other variations question

I think the high performance stuff may be a new product so they're offering it a bit cheaper. I don't use it so can't really offer an opinion on finish, durability etc. I'd always go with Little Green for eggshell.

    Laser Levels

Did a job last summer working/helping out a couple of mates/multi trades on a biggish re-dec, he insisted on me trying his laser level to hang some LP. I found it annoying as by the time its positioned you can pretty much get a pencilled plumb line done and i seemed to keep getting in the way of...

    Nightmare paper.

Just pulling your leg mate, we use shears eh?! I can remember being ignored by my college tutor when i asked him where the scissors were!

    Nightmare paper.

The smaller 6mm blades are better for cutting paper, always offer up a straight edge, with the straight edge against the paper to protect it. Scissors Robbie? tut tut mate!

    Cutting back gloss paint

The car guys do a colour sand, i've put a link below as i don't know much about it. If it was me i would use something like 1000 -2000 wet and dry with plenty of water, make sure the gloss has cured properly though. http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/paint-body/hrdp-0805-color-sanding/

    coving replacement

Can you measure it? To get an accurate size you have to measure the 'C' profile. I think it's most likely to be 100mm. They do a 127mm as well.

    Valspar paint really that bad?

Armstead (available at Brewers) are a much better bet, its cheap and actually really isn't a bad paint at all. Brewers own brand is Albany, also a good budget paint.

Newly Emulsioned Wall - feels rough / fine sandpaper texture

New build standards are atrocious. Lowest bidder gets the contract, the decs simply can't afford to do a decent job, speed is king.

    Dreaded woodchip

Carbide scrapers can be very useful. Inevitable that you will damage the board, though the right technique can minimilise this. A plaster skim is likely to be required regardless...

    sikkens waterbased satin

Yes you can and you don't need the bl primer, satin is self undercoating. the satura can sometimes split a bit on the first coat if prep isn't thorough. If it does give it a light rub down and apply the second coat, should be ok.

Bedec Aqua - gloss or satin

The best hybrid paints IMO are Dulux gloss and undercoat and the sikkens satura (satin).

    Anyone recognise this wallpaper?

His technique in the video is fine, just a variation on a theme really, he has a pattern to match. Guess it does make it a bit easier to remove the damaged pice first. Either way is fine. You would most likely get away with it if you bought a small tub of border adhesive

    Anyone recognise this wallpaper?

To repair it you have to splice it in over the top. Cut the new piece 10mm bigger than you need. paste the new piece up, let it soak and place it over the damaged piece. With a sharp stanley or preferably a razor blade or the smaller 9mm stanley, cut through both pieces of paper making sure you...

    White paint for handrail.....which one?

Dulux quick drying satinwood isn't bad, sikkens BL satura is better and resists abrasion. Always good practice to give hand rails a couple of extra coats and dust off before painting.

    Epoxy work

Nice work Chris. I'd guess the paint on the brickwork is from previous coats, might be worth running a bead of caulk to try and clean the line up between window and pointing?

    Wood remaining sticky after painting/Glossing.

Can you not just replace the bit of wood?, then cover it with formica or whatever. Paint has its limits, interior paints are generally decorative rather than protective. FYI satin is self undercoating, so two further coats would normally be required. Primer looks a bit ropey, they often rub down...
