    dead locking stuck

Hi john .Can you remember what the lock system looked like when the door was open and the handle raised? What i'm driving at is that if its a hook up/down and roller cam type then its a lot more difficult to release then just cams alone. First thing is to de-glaze the panel or glazing to allow...

    Small double glazing unit

Glad you got it sorted! 4-10-4 is ideal for this type of application - just make sure you're deducted the thickness of the glazing tape and beading from the rebate depth to ensure 18mm will fit. A week's about right for toughened - not many in-house toughening plants about really.

    Small double glazing unit

You should have no problem fitting a sealed unit in there. The thinnest spacer bar is 6mm so 4-6-4 (14mm) is achievable. Be prepared to pay for 0.3 or 0.4 m/sq as this is usually the min. size. You will need both leaves toughened as its in a door.

    Yale 6400 outdoor keypad

Thanks all, especially the useful and constuctive comments from Bernard and John. I take all these points on-board. Finally, I find this forum to be an excellent resource for both offering and receiving useful and pertinent information about specific issues everyday folk have. My main problem...

    Sanishower slow operation

Just as a (late) follow up to this, I did manage to sort the problem without having to resort to the nightmare of a strip-out. I used a couple of litres of Sani de-scaler overnight in the sump and up to the top of the plug hole, but this didn't work until I got a good old fashioned sink plunger...

    Yale 6400 outdoor keypad

There's merit in what you say - with kids that lose keys with ridiculous regularity I thought it may be a simpler option than the expense of a £20 key fob every week or two :?

    Yale 6400 outdoor keypad

Hi all. Does anyone know of a outdoor type keypad that is compatable with the Yale 6400. The HSA 6080 would be ideal except its not weatherproof and can be removed from its housing. What I really need is its features in a secure, weatherproof housing. Do you think a HSA 3080 would do? Any help...

    removing upvc door and frame

As Forest says, most likely galv straps or nailing plates behind the dry lining. Done quite a few of these and it can be real messy. Best way i've found is using the 9" whizzer up the inside (try to put a dust barrier in the hallway) and just a few minutes work should do the job. Any raggy edge...

    Plastic slides in window frame

Crank. Aren't they just transit packers to keep the sashes true during shipping? I only ever get them on heavy french pairs and just rip em out when heeling and toeing

    Help with a garage door

I see what you mean!! - The door you have is a Henderson Merlin Canopy and is probably anything up to 40 years old, but if the mechanism is reasonably good it should be fixable. First thing to ascertain is whether the two brick pillars holding the frame are true (vertical), put your level on...

Maximum door opening width - french door options!

Most manufacturers are right on the limit at about 2m. The weight of each piece of glass dictates this, and anything above this can cause premature hinge failure. Ive just priced a 3 panel tri-fold from my supplier (2400 x 2100) in white uPVC at around £1700 supply only - I can pass your details...

    UPVC door/window beads - hammer?

I use the heavier one - bit more weight when youre working in a tight reveal. Don't get the one with the red faces, they can mark the bead after they get worn.

    Sanishower slow operation

David. Thanks very much for your post - so glad you have sorted it out, and most appreciative of the walk-through guide. I will attempt mine given your success, but not until i've plucked up enough courage to rip the whole cubicle apart (wet tile board) sitting down over the tray upstand :cry...

    Sanishower slow operation

David. Your correct in saying that the replies to date are less than constructive - it seems some people just want to jump on their soap box to slag off some product or another, but conveniently forget that a genuine request for help is required. As a joiner, I ALWAYS try and offer constructive...

    Sanishower slow operation

Hi all. I installed a sanishower in my en-suite about two years ago, but lately it is reluctant to take the water out at a reasonable rate, and although still working, the tray is filling faster than the water is discharging. Has anyone had experience of this type of problem - is it just a...

    Trickle vents

In my experience, different local authorities apply different criteria, for example, my LA are quite happy to use the night vent position of the opener as background ventilation, whereas just over the border in Chester, i've had some ar**y BC inspectors who specced (ugly) trickle vents on all...

    uPVC window wont open

I think your problem lies with the friction hinge(basically the window hinge)There is a small black plastic section that slides in the stainless track which holds all the arms of the hinge together. It is a weak point and if it breaks, what has happened to you usually occurs. To close the...

    1930's bay windows

Dont forget, if, as crank says it is a supporting bay and structural bay pole is specced, the bay pole should go through the cill section and sit on the brickwork below. Now THERES something you don't see very often either.
