    LCD vs. LED TVs

Isn't 1366x768 better for normal (non HD) TV? If I buy a 1920x1080 TV and don't watch HD will I be viewing a 1366x768 picture on a 1920x768 screen? This doesn't sound like it would give a good picture.

New landline phone: always off hook?

The phone does not have an answering machine. I suppose the phone could be faulty, despite being brand new and not a cheapo phone. I was thinking that the new phone might be more sensitive to noise on the line or something, compared to my old, solid BT phone.

New landline phone: always off hook?

My router has wireless turned off. The router is on a telephone extension in the next room.

New landline phone: always off hook?

Just bought a BT Decor 1200 land line phone. The problem is it always seems to be off hook. If I lift the receiver, there is no sound. So I remove and reinsert the phone plug at the wall socket, which gives me a dial tone. If I phone in from another phone, I get a message prompting me to...

    LCD vs. LED TVs

Looking for a 24 in flat panel TV. Everyone says go for LED. Better contrast, viewing angle etc. But they have some LCD TVs in Currys that look just the same picture wise as the LED TVs. A Panasonic model looked really good. Does either type have a better resolution for text? My...

Hotpoint WM61P: Replacing door hinge needs internal access?

Yes, I'll try that. It's not fully closed. But it seems tight enough. I'm planning to replace the door seal sometime later. So it'll be coming off again.

Hotpoint WM61P: Replacing door hinge needs internal access?

Well I've refitted a new hinge with no problems. But the problem now is getting the restraining wire to fit. Using my bare hands, I can't get the plastic fastener to close. I'm nearly half an inch out.

Hotpoint WM61P: Replacing door hinge needs internal access?

Got it! The white plastic clip is a 2-part assembly that holds the retaining wire in tension. When you release the clip, it "explodes" apart. I can't get it back in tight tension now, though!

Hotpoint WM61P: Replacing door hinge needs internal access?

There's a slot in the side. I pushed a screwdriver in, expecting the side piece to come off. But I'm just damaging the plastic at the moment. Does the whole plastic box come off. Or just the right corner piece?

Hotpoint WM61P: Replacing door hinge needs internal access?

Hotpoint Aquarius washing machine, WM61P. I need to replace the door hinge, but I have read that for some washing machines I might need to hold onto a back plate inside the chassis as I undo the 2 screws holding the hinge on. Otherwise the back plate drops into the chassis. I need to get...

Manual rad valve: always on full blast

My understanding is that the manual valve is either on or off. But your instructions suggest that changing the setting of the manual valve will affect the rad temp.

Manual rad valve: always on full blast

I don't have a room stat anywhere. So in the living room I have the manual rad on at full blast. There is also a smaller TRV rad which doesn't get so warm (because the output from the big manual rad is determining when it switches on and off). Not very energy efficient at the moment!

Manual rad valve: always on full blast

Because all my other rads have TRVs, I have to leave the manual valve open. I think this is a building reg. So, it looks like this particular rad (the biggest one in the house, in the living room) is always going to be on full blast.

Manual rad valve: always on full blast

Yes. But it's not on full blast. I though manual valves were able to control flow to the rad. Not just being on or off.

Manual rad valve: always on full blast

The majority of my rads have TRVs. One rad has a manual wheelhead valve (Pegler terrier). This rad is always full on, even if I turn the wheelhead valve almost completely clockwise. Is the valve was a TRV, I would suspect that the valve was faulty. But can manual valves go wrong like this?

Room thermostat: connect to CH pump?

Yes, I see. So a room stat that does not switch the boiler off is useful for controlling temperature? But if the boiler is still running it won't be as efficient and save me on gas bills.

Room thermostat: connect to CH pump?

Yes. I'm looking for a simple solution. A mechanical stat sounded like it would be less bother. With my current controller I can have HW or HW + CH. I don't need CH only. Was DP suggesting this with his rewiring suggestion?

Room thermostat: connect to CH pump?

What about mechanical thermostats? Are they unreliable? A programmable stat is too complicated for my needs. Don't know about battery operated. How long do the batteries last?

Room thermostat: connect to CH pump?

Yes, that's the same diagram from the Danfoss manual I downloaded. It doesn't look too complicated if I get a 2-wire stat.

Room thermostat: connect to CH pump?

I'll have to check this out. But I might be able to make all connections in the loft, near to the pump.
