Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Its black but externally its 21mm. That is much larger than 1/2" . I looked at plumbcentres catalogue and really don't know which stopcock to buy.

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Thanks John. Its definitely black and measuring as best a I can with adjustable spanner says its 21mm. Perhaps its 20mm after all and so the screwfix one would be ok? Just that plumbers merchants are obviously closed today.

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Many thanks for the replies. I'd not wandered off for some reason the email notification didn't work. Anyway, yes I think it is the blue plastic pipe ! I've never seen it before. Now that I know its mdpe (thanks a lot for that), it would seem screwfix do one at 25mm and another that I think...

Water pouring out of inside mains stopcock !

Hi As title said this happened because (despite all advice) I stupidly tried to close a stopcock shut. Actually, I was able to start the turning and loosened it up to about 3/4 of a turn with wd40 and opening/closing. Then all hell broke lose as the 15mm pipe on the house side worked its...

Simple thermostat to replace old British Gas ES1

Hi (Reposting due to previously at the end of a very old and unrelated thread). Could the Drayton RTS1 be used to replace an old BritishGas ES1 (i.e. is it compatible without having to rewire in a new one - just want to keep things as simple as possible if I can). Also if I did that...

    SPLIT: Adeellis stat

Hi I know this is an old post, but could the Drayton RTS1 be used to replace an old BritishGas ES1 ? Also if I did that would there be an improvement on the current miserable stat performance? (When turning the knob to the right to click on and then to the left to click off, the difference...

Is it normal to ask for a 50% deposit before starting work..

Is it normal to ask for a 50% deposit before starting work on a new boiler installation (for around 2K). Its a one man band and I don't think he accepts credit cards so can't protect myself that way either. But if its the norm then I guess I can accept it....

    Boiler Nightmare continues

Firstly, thanks v much to you all for all the replies. With regard to the "upgrade to fully pumped", I did mean of course only the water is currently gravity based. In that case I presume a MV would be needed and a hotwater tank replacement (?) beause it has no thermostat of its own. I...

    Boiler Nightmare continues

Hi Sorry to open up 3 threads in 2 days I'll try and keep everything to this thread. We are living a nightmare and I have taken previous advice (we need to upgrade our boiler due to it checking out CO!) We had another "engineer" arrive today to quote for a new boiler and upgrade to fully...

Condensing Gravity Boiler - do they exist?

Ok, I think I've fond the answer - its "no". Seems I'll need to upgrade to a fully pumped system.

Condensing Gravity Boiler - do they exist?

Having seen the light, we're having our dangerous boiler replaced. Its currently a gravity hot water with pumped heating and no valves. Are there any condensing boilers that are compatible with this or must I upgrade to a fully pumped system with M-valve etc?

Carbon Monoxide leaking for years in kitchen

Its not a wind up. From the strong "advice" given here and other advice I will get a new boiler. But, I still want something temporarily in place so I can get the boiler scrappage discount. I'm sure that your years of gas safe training and work tell you over and over not to take any risks. I...

Carbon Monoxide leaking for years in kitchen

Couldn't I use fire cement around the gap? And regarding safety, wouldn't one or two CO detectors be good enough?

Carbon Monoxide leaking for years in kitchen

Hi I wonder if anyone can help us? We had a British Gas engineer round for a firt service of our 29 year old Potterton Netaheat boiler. After cleaning around inside and pronuncing everything looks ok he put it back together, fired it up, and did his CM testing. Discovered around 70ppm at...

Replacing Switch - not enough space in back box

RFL, I don't and I'm grateful for your answers - they make sense. I guess I just wanted to know "why" and now I do. Still don't know though whether to get a 35mm box or just push in the existing 25mm....
