Circuits running out of power and high bills

Hi, looking at the comments previously about the use of convection heaters - it could be correct. But next time I'm over I'll take a look and try and quantify what's on. I may get one of those current meter plug things - or a clamp on current meter.

Circuits running out of power and high bills

Thanks for all the replies. We got an electrician round who found the fault was 'luckily' outside, so SSE came to fix the cabling to house.

Circuits running out of power and high bills

Hi there, the fault does appear to be with one circuit - the lamps are plugged into the same circuit at the kettle / heaters etc. Problem is I don't live there! I just visit every few weekends! However, I think I'll call an electrician to come check things out

Circuits running out of power and high bills

@Echo the husky - yes, for a while the led lamps (plugged in to same circuit) in the kitchen have dimmed while turning the kettle on. I've no idea the heater kW but yes they'll be on full.

Circuits running out of power and high bills

Hi Folks, Thanks for your comments. I chose the word farmhouse as it describes the house, it's not been used as a farmhouse for a while (at least 30 years) but I don't know when main supply line was installed. The line to the house is at least 200m long. I've just checked and the house was...

Circuits running out of power and high bills

Hi, I'm trying to fix a few problems with my in-laws 18th century Scottish farmhouse. There's a lot of 'projects' here but one is electrics: They've always had bills of over £200/month. A lot of this will be as they use convector heaters as the oil boiler + central heating broke years ago...

Old downpipes blocked, go direct into ground

Hi there, thanks for your comments. A few extra details. The gutters at the back (first photo) go directly into a stone ledge that's about 30cm high and 30cm wide that runs most the length of the back of the house. One of the front ones has a bend at ground level then goes down into the ground...

Old downpipes blocked, go direct into ground

Hi folks, I'm helping friend with their old (1900?) house, and one of the problems is the gutters appear to be blocked. One was plastic, which we lifted out, and out came a downpipes-worth of leaves, moss and water. We cleared out the drain, and water seems to flow ok into the drain. All the...

Ugly wetroom - Covering Altro Wetroom floor

Hello. The house I moved into has a 'disability' style wet room - eg, functional and ugly! A lot like this photo: http://www.apollodesign.uk.com/Tiles/Lil4.jpg. Looking for ideas on how to improve it. I could get the bathroom gutted and refitted nicely with a bath (expensive), or I could just...
