Dot and Dab cement board (hardie)

I'm fixing hardi-board to brick walls and am going for the DnD with through fixings method. What do I use to DnD though? - standard board adhesive (Gyproc dri-wall) - rapid set tile adhesive - something else?

Oval conduit, back boxes and plaster board

25mm boxes sound like they'll be ample for us. Hmm, maybe PVC capping would be an easier/better way to go. Should 25mm be enough for single/twin 2.5mm² runs? Any opinions on makes/models: http://www.discount-electrical.co.uk/section.php/107199/1/pvc-capping...

Oval conduit, back boxes and plaster board

The house is an on going project, so spurs etc will probably be needed in the future, thought that would be easier with conduit.

Oval conduit, back boxes and plaster board

Apologies for asking this again, I've spent the evening reading the forum and have almost got the answers - I think I'm renovating a 1930s semi, I've the walls back to bare brick but need to move some light switches and add sockets. The new electrics will all sit under D&D plasterboard...

How thick should render be for tiling?

Do I put a fixing through each dab? Assuming 250mm centres that's approx 5x3 fixings, 15 per board

    Viessmann vs Intergas vs Atag

Just to take this slightly on a tangent, I don't know which way the OP is swaying but the ATAG A325EC with flue and outside temp sensor is on offer at the Plumb Center, £1113 inc vat. I know as I bought one yesterday :)

    Renovate ceilings or replace?

With regard to Asbestos, if your concerned I've used these guys before to test some samples from my house: http://www.asbestoswatchdog.co.uk/residential/help-TexturedDecorativeCoatings.html http://www.asbestoswatchdog.co.uk/residential/sampling.htm

How thick should render be for tiling?

Thought I'd reuse this topic. What through/frame fixings should I use/not use? Had a quick look and found these options: Frame fixing - 80mm http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Screws+Fixings/Frame+Fixings/Frame+Fixing+8+x+80mm/d90/sd1950/p83958 Hammer fixing - 80mm...

    soundshield board

Another vote for a good 6mm layer of Soundcoat slopped on. It'll seal the wall and give a good foundation for your other insulation and boarding.

How thick should render be for tiling?

Don't know why that link errors, works ok here - just imagine a shiny British Gypsum brochure! Maybe I'll leave the external cavity walls and just Soundcoat the internal brick one. I'll loose 6mm, but it'll be a bonus to reduce the apparent noise of peoples morning ablutions... :shock...

How thick should render be for tiling?

Not an official spec sheet but I found this: http://www.british-gypsum.com/pdf/HOMESPEC05_5_External_walls_02.pdf Page 95 - "Gyproc plasterboard should be fixed using Gyproc Dri-Wall Adhesive after Gyproc Soundcoat Plus has set – allow 120 minutes minimum setting time." Any improvement...

How thick should render be for tiling?

For both speed and hassle reasons I think backerboard throughout is the way to go. Would there be any issues with putting a layer of Soundcoat Plus under the boarding (both in the bathroom and elsewhere in the house on the D&D'd external walls). Just thinking that anything to reduce...

How thick should render be for tiling?

Thanks for the information Richard. It's good to know D&D is an option for us. Because the room is quite small I think batons + foil backed insulation + hardiboard would be too thick. However using Hardiboard + D&D with some through fixings to the brickwork might be thin enough, would we...

How thick should render be for tiling?

How thick should a 1:5 render be on bare brick walls to accept 30cmx60cm ceramic wall tiles? I don't have specific weights but they are these: http://www.toppstiles.co.uk/tprod2790/section269/Glossy-White-Flat-Wall-Tile-30X60.html I need to render the walls as they are external cavity...

National Grid - wanting to move gas meter!

We've got our gas meter under the stairs with what looks like an old cast iron pipe feeding up into it. M1 Gas Alliance guys turn up, takes one look, says "Oh, you've been done, no need to dig up your drive" and was off. :( we were quite looking forward to not having our gas meter next to...

    Where to buy an ATAG?

Are these "Brain Z" controllers available from PlumbCenter, I rang up yesterday asking for a price but haven't heard back. Slightly more technical question: The A325EC appears to have 2 sets of terminal blocks for controllers, an ATAG only pair, and an "On/off" pair. To which set would you...

    Where to buy an ATAG?

Just as a follow up: ATAG like you to buy things from Plumb Centre. Plumb Centre gave me a good price :) Anyone used the ATAG thermostatic controls (the Brain Q)? How to they compare to Honeywells?
