13 amp sockets on work surface

I've used these Evoline ones - more expensive but much better quality.

    Extending satelite cable

Sorry to be dim, but what's shotgun cable?

    Lighting From Ring

RF - spookily that's exactly what happened. I'm assuming the original installer took the opinion that since it was fused, it was OK to lob a couple of socket outlets on the spur; oh and then to wire up the garage with a couple of outlets as well. Have to admit I sleep better having moved it...

    Lighting From Ring

Novice here, so forgive the potentially naive question. Is this a good idea? I ask this since my conservatory was wired up this way when I bought the house, and on inspection found a 13amp fuse in the FCU. I've subsequently connected to the lighting cct and replace the FCU with a simple...

    Randall 4033 Programmer

Hi - I need your help please guys.... Renovating a 1970s house; I've had the boiler serviced, all well and good, and now need to update the timer and the valves. 2 questions: 1) Can I get TRVs for microbore? 2) Is it reasonably straightforward to replace a Randall 4033 programmer (huge...

    electric shower install

I bought a Creda shower recently and this had a plastic inlet pipe, no thread. I used a reusable push-fit plastic elbow which works admirably. The only problem I have with the push-fits is to make sure they are pushed all the way in, else leaks can occur. Slip - is it possible the fitting was...

    BCO notification

Hi - I had similar problems with my BCO, so I emailed them. Have you tried [email protected] ? Just a thought....

    EFLI Testing

Something I did consider, even though this one has a battery-low indicator. But you're right of course, much cheaper than a recalibration.

    EFLI Testing

Lectrician - he tested at all the same socket outlets, on ring final and also on the cooker radial. The Ze test (which I didn't do) also checked out (0.2 or similar, I forget). Is it something to do with the No-Trip test on my MFT1502 - is this something you've seen before ? Many thanks....

    EFLI Testing

Hi guys - need your help please. Installing a kitchen in a seaside bungalow, I'm testing the fused spur I've installed. EFLI of around 740 ohms. Golly, thinks I. Inspection of the board shows me a PME system (made simple for dimwits like me by putting a sticker on stating "PME"). Further...

Extended ring main now it's picky about the company it keeps

Sorry to ask the obvious, but does the Dyson work in another socket outlet? Have you checked that phase & neutral aren't reversed at the plate?

Lucky, or just Very Accurate Drilling ?

The buff/yellow rectangle on the wall is where the wall cupboard was fitted. The plinth was trimmed to fit over the socket plate.

    £1 outdoor sockets + switches

A mate of mine "fixed" the broken wires to his plaster mixer with connection blocks from the Pound Shop. I couldn't believe he could be so dim. Strikes me this is the same thing - you don't get what you don't pay for....

    neceic domestic installer

Hi Goldie, Don't know if this is good advice or not, but I got thru my first assessment recently. I'd not long done 2391 Inspection & Test, so was fairly clear on test sequences, methods, expected readings and interpretations of results. In the documentation that the NIC sent, there's a bit...

    Whats the difference?

For what it's worth, the second link has 10 socket outlets included, (as seen in B&Q !!) whereas the first does not. Do I win a major prize ? :D

    DIS course

I did the 2381 and 2391, and then applied (successfully :) ) to NICEIC. 2391 was invaluable to me since I had very little experience of proper testing. Also invaluable was the help and mentoring I got from sparky mates (not least Uncle Dingbat!) I found Scaddan's books good for background...

    NIC Electrician

Uncle Ding - this has resulted in a completion cert with "Electrical Work carried out by Uncle Ding Ltd, Sparkies By Appointment" written upon it. I feel a beer and curry-fueled discussion at The Royal Bengal coming on ! I'll drop you a text later this week...

    NIC Electrician

Sam - my understanding is that the LABC should issue a completion certficate, once the NIC Registered electrician has notified the job. That's certainly what has happened with me in the past. I don't know if different councils work differently?
