    Using lime in mortar

BS 5628-3 is supposed to give guidance on batch mixing or mortas, but so far I have been unable to find a free download link. Does anyone have a link for BS 5628-3?

NT88 can you take a more-in-focus photo showing the cracks near the ceiling please?

Loss of insulating effect of insulation boards over time.

MW I think you may be the most rude/hurtful person on this building forum!

Bay damp at floor level - possible causes?

If a brush-on bitumen compund will stick, and stay stuck to the wall between floor DPM and DPC, then your problem should, in theory, hopefully be solved.

Loss of insulating effect of insulation boards over time.

I am aware of this issue with the foil backed 'Celotex' type materials. EPS does not have non air gas in its cells, so its R value does not change over time. There is a school of thought that feels EPS is better value than 'Celtotex' type products. Regarding your 3 - 5 times more...

Roofing. How to do a Lead Gulley

I have found zinc far easier to work with on a valley and for flashing. That lead is expensive and far too heavy for my liking

Bay damp at floor level - possible causes?

Yes, take the skirtings off and lift anything away that is damp until you uncover the root cause of the damp. I assume you have a sold flloor that the parquet is stuck to? The tanking/dpm must be continuous and lap upto the DPC.

    Floor Screeding for numpties?

FAO jeds: If a person mixed their own screed WITH FIBERS and plastersiser (in a cement mixer of course), would they find it more workable/easier because of the fibers?

    Am I mad?

Yes agree we all love Freddie. Mr/Ms Nervous's post may be found with the search utility. I don't think he/she can be classed as a troll however. I heard a rumor the other day that the C5 Cowboy Builders program was based on some of the threads on this forum. I think I...

Drains - to map or not to map

I did wave my magic wand and the OP has now confessed that there is a load of decking covering ground that he has not checked for an inspection chamber lid. Tut tut

    Water In Post Hole

How are you going to stop the decking becoming a slippery death trap when wet after it has aged a few months?

Drains - to map or not to map

Richy C, my point, as I am sure you realised, concerned the suggestions made to the OP that he should pay someone else to do the work which is DIYable. The idea of getting someone else to do something that you should make the effor to do yourself was aired on the Simpsons in one episode. You...

Drains - to map or not to map

Well here is your mistake which for some reason the forum 'experts' have failed to noitice - kitchen waste goes down the same sewer that takes toilet waste. Flush your lav and look down that manhole. Maybe the rainwater goes into a soak away? In time you will most likely work it out on your...

Drains - to map or not to map

How are they going to get their camera into the sewer with no manholes to use? Would they disconnect the toilet and go in there?

Drains - to map or not to map

Why don't you map them for yourself for free by following all the water/sewage routes away from your house? If there is a sewer around, it will have periodic manholes for rodding.
