    ref gigz- that works for a faulty mixer as well. know which one i'd check first, and a damn site cheaper to fix. if the mixers have isolators on the hot, try turning them off overnight and recheck the water level. i'm not saying it's the coil,but turning the gate valve off for the cylinder cold...

    tried running ALL the hot upstairs at the same time? would indicate a flow problem.

    do you have a mixer shower or tap leaking back up the hot water pipe? try isolating the relevant item and rechecking.

    change the cylinder and have a loft feeder tank, or have a high pressure hot water cylinder such as a megaflo. latter will give you a better result but more expensive.

    the white bit is an inline trap. seems to be leaking from above that. you need to remove the insulation and find the start.

    can use a car tyre pump, takes a while but works. if you fill it with water and have a leak it'll be messy.

    the washers won't be the problem, that's not how these taps work. It's a ceramic insert so you should be able to pick up a set of spares form b&q or a plumbers merchant. take the old one to compare.

    batten round,avoiding and bridging the existing blocks. support the bath on this, as well as using all the feet given. if no feet, block up under the bath and give the base as much support as you can.

    was the element a cheap standard or a long-life one? cheaper and quicker to just replace the thermo as not wet work. if it's not the thermo, then yes a new element.

    fortic cylinder, need to check the loft for a holding tank. chances are there isn't one- or why the expense of a fortic?

    negative head impellers are for a pump above the cylinder- just put a standard pump at the foot of the cylinder. as your bathroom cold should be mains, just pump the hot.

    did the plumber touch the stopcock? if so, try turning it down a little- possiblystop or reduce the hammering.

    I use an old fish slice- sharpen the end and one side. a bit of soap and it's great.
