    boiler sizeing

The condensate pipe runs outside and into a surface water drain. When the boiler is on it emits a steady (almost non stop) drip. Admittedly I haven't sat and watched it for hours, but when the boiler is working hard (all radiators calling for heat, sometimes with HW being called at same time)...

    Combi boiler expansion vessels

Yes I'm aware most combis are 24kW or bigger. My rads will add up to approx 10kW so well within the 24kW capability of the boiler but you've hit the nail on the head mentioning the 80 litres point though, as this was basically what my question was all about. And aye, I'm up in the County of...

    Combi boiler expansion vessels

Interesting, as I'd expect most people have more than half a dozen radiators, although I've never seen a secondary expansion vessel fitted.

    Combi boiler expansion vessels

I've been sizing up my system requirements for a combi boiler, looking at how many rads I will need, replacing singles with doubles etc, being sure that the combi boiler is of a large enough kW to cope. Whilst reading a few topics on this site I've come across the occasional problem of the...

    boiler sizeing

Could you explain this a bit more to a lay person like myself please. I'd like to understand it as I'm looking to have my system boiler replaced with a combi. The system boiler I have at the min is a modern 12kW condensing boiler, that replaced the original one (whatever make that was) but the...

    Boiler Power Questions

I'm looking to get my system boiler replaced with a combi and whilst I won't be doing any of the work, I'd like to know a few basic things to understand how my current system is powered. 1. At the minute, there's a cable coming down from the ceiling that goes and up and under the boiler and...

    Scrap etiquette

Whoa there 4 pages since I wrote the original question! Well I don't want to offend anyone so won't be asking to keep the scrap. For me it was mainly the cylinder and only 6 year old Worcester boiler I was thinking about. As for why I'm getting rid, well there's several reasons: The...

    Scrap etiquette

I’m going to be getting quotes for a new combi boiler install to replace my existing fully pumped system. This will involve scrapping the existing HW cylinder (approx 15 years old) and a Worcester Ri 12kW system boiler (6 years old). Is the boiler worth anything to anyone to be re-used? Or would...

TV signal dips when electric shower is turned on

Can you explain saddle and clamp vs fully screened please. I presume you mean how the coax is connected to the socket? I guess I'd have to remove it and have a look. In terms of replacement, if it doesn't say screened then is it just saddle and clamp like this one...

TV signal dips when electric shower is turned on

Does the proximity of the TV coax cable to the shower play a part? The cable comes in under a roof tile then is split - 1 way down a cavity wall to a TV socket in the living room and the other way through the ceiling to a bedroom. This is routed a couple of metres away from the shower cabling.

TV signal dips when electric shower is turned on

Hello... in response to the questions, the electricity supply is underground cable. The aerial is roof mounted, however it does look rather aged. Are you saying if the signal is weak (or aerial/cabling old) then it is more susceptible to this interference from the shower? Also which switch is...

TV signal dips when electric shower is turned on

Nope. The shower is on its own circuit and no booster on it.

TV signal dips when electric shower is turned on

I've got a 9.5kW electric shower, and when it is turned on there's always been a very slight dip in the lighting (same happens when hoover is powered on). This was apparent in my last house too so I presumed it was just the power being drawn and wasn't unusual. However, I've now noticed that...

Wall paint bubbling up - how to remove

Yes that bit of cream paint underneath I revealed feels shiny, so I think a sand over will be required. Once sanded, do you get the dust off with a wet or dry cloth?

Wall paint bubbling up - how to remove

I got round to this job at the weekend and despite all the questions, it actually came off mostly by hand! With the wall warrmed up (by radiator and portable heater) I stuck a finger behind one of the bubbles and was able to slowly and carefully 'peel' it off in sheets, as if it was vinyl. Very...
