How best to Route Condensate Pipe Internally

Well the airlock thing is something I hadn't considered. I thought the tee piece pictured above would be just the job, but not if it'll lead to air locks.

    Room Thermostats

Crikey Dan, do you never go to bed?! I sure do appreciate paying for a tradesmans's knowledge. Trouble is all the good ones are super busy (as you'd expect) and their time is at a premium, hence why I try and get my head round the simpler queries (you'd think!) via sites like this.

    Room Thermostats

Haha nice turns of phrase there! Well I definitely have 3 wires as thats how my old Sunvic is wired so I should be ok there, as long as the RGI can suss out installing whatever replacement I get. Are you saying if they aren't wired with an anticipator then they'll cycle on and off like crazy...

    Room Thermostats

How can they not be installed correctly? Once it's wired in, there's nothing to adjust is there? As for anticipators, no wonder I get confused if so called professionals do. Am I right in thinking they still cycle the boiler on and off, perhaps less so than a digital with TPi? The Danfoss link...

    Room Thermostats

Think we need a new thread! I'm waiting to hear back on the exact viessman model but I know it's a 30kW one. Are you saying the lesser models are no good? Please take no offence, but everyone i ask tells me different. Generally I find an RGI is an accredited installer for a particular brand...

    Room Thermostats

Right, then my next step is to see if the combi boiler I'll be getting fitted requires a mains voltage stat or a volt free one. I'm looking at either a baxi duotec mk1 or a viessman (don't yet know the model number). Oh, and how do anticipator heaters in the old mechanical (and it seems...

    Room Thermostats

Ok well enlighten me on what there is to misunderstand. I can believe it doesn't 'waste gas' and that any impact on boiler internals is only minimal, but I still don't want the boiler firing on and off like a man posessed every few minutes. I've had a look at the installer instructions for...

    Room Thermostats

I can find this post, which sums up my sentiments exactly! http://www.diynot.com/forums/plumbing/can-you-turn-off-tpi-function-on-honeywell-cm927-rf-stat.379697/#2906515 I hope you didn't mean this one as it links to a 117 page document...

    Room Thermostats

Sorry I'm not following you on the proportional bandwidth thing. Can you explain please? If you mean reducing the cycle rate, I believe the cm907 can be set to a minimum of 3 times per hour, but thats for oil. For gas, it recommends 6 times an hour. In my eyes, no good for the boilers...

    Room Thermostats

I think we're at cross purposes here. I do know what you're talking about with regards the cm907 working out what time it needs to come on vs. the time programmed in, and that being the 'optimisation' feature which can be disabled. What's more concerning for me is the chrono-proportional...

    Room Thermostats

Well as I understand it, from Honeywell's own site, the DT90e has TPI control (time proportional integral) which switches the boiler on and off in cycles as the stat approaches the set temp, to prevent overshoot. The cm907 has chrono proportional control but by its description, this is...

    Room Thermostats

Hit the nail on the head there Dan. Now I've bought a house I do care about how/why things work. The cost doesn't really bother me (within reason) I just want simple controls, with my general mantra being the less complicated it is, the less there is to go wrong.

    Room Thermostats

Haha I hope you're not kindly sayng I'm stupid  Regardless, the optimisation feature of the cm907 is one thing (and can indeed be switched off), but the TPI/chrono proportional control is another and cannot be switched off. I do like the look of the T6360 dial stat, looks like a...

    Room Thermostats

Ok thanks, I'm not going to be touching it but I'm just looking at wired replacements as I don't fancy wireless, and thats all installers seem to be pushing these days. Do you guys still fit a regular thermostat and separate timeswitch/programmer if the customer so desires? These...

    Room Thermostats

Apoogies for another thread on thermostats but I'm still trying to get my head round them. I currently have an old Sunvic TLX 2259 which has 3 wires + earth. This is an old model from the 1980's - is this likely to have an anticpator, hence the 3 wires? Some of the replacements I'm looking at...

How best to Route Condensate Pipe Internally

Thanks, how do you mean with regards the airlock? If it's tee'd into the kitchen waste then wont the sinkhole prevent an airlock? Or could it be that emptying water down the sink could create a vacuum which could lead to an airlock in the condensate waste?

Thanks, could that be mounted either horizontally (as in the pic) or vertically?

How best to Route Condensate Pipe Internally

As part of a CH overhaul I will be getting a condensing boiler replaced in the kitchen, and unlike the current boiler whose condensate pipe is routed outside, the new one is to be routed internally. What's the best way of connecting the condensate pipe to the waste system? I've currently got a...

    Programmers and programmable room thermostats

Ok thanks for the replies. I understand with the bi metallic strip that it can take a while for the metal to contract back to its default shape and therefore call the boiler for heat again (temp may have dropped several degrees lower than the temp set on the roomstat). However, if an...

    Programmers and programmable room thermostats

OK, decided to investigate these programmable stats a bit more, What I'm struggling to figure out with the cm0907 is the cycling when the set temp is reached. From what i understand, when the stat senses the temp is 1.5 degrees below the target temp, it cycles the boiler on and off 6 times an...
