Assumeing your talking about a room stat. The easy way to tell is to totaly disconect the room stat (with power off etc) then see if the boiler still runs on heating ,if so then its a board fault if not its the room stat, more chance of a faulty room stat.

Does the ch light flash slowley after the failred ignition. Did you alter any external electrics or gas when fitting the towel rail ?
