    Earth bonding

I've read a bit about earthing on the forum and it has been very helpful - it is one area the DIY books are poor on. I would be grateful if someone could clarify a few points: I live in a block of flats and none of my pipework etc is cross bonded. I assume (?) that the main gas and water...

Noisy pump in brand new Worcester Bosch Junior 28i Combi

Do not need a by pass system on a combi, they usually have built in ones. Have you checked if TRVs are on the flow, to do this turn all rads off that have TRVs, let them and the pipework cool down. Turn boiler on and open them up one by one and see which pipe gets hot first. The pipe with the...

    why is one radiator cold

2 possibillities, firstly try turning off most of other rads, try bleeding cold rad. Is it hot at the bottom? If it is it needs bleeding. Could have an air lock, by turning off the other rads the pump will pump through better. Are the rad valves open on it? If you have a thermo rad valve...

    smelly house!

Thank you for the suggestions. We have looked under kitchen floors, can't see anything yet. Just thought of a couple of extra points. Because the house seems worse when the heating is on, wondered how this contributes. We have an old Concord open flue boiler, soon to be replaced as...

    smelly house!

Shot in the dark, but:- We recently bought a 1930's semi which has an intermittant smell emitting from the kitchen area, seemingly up through the floor, (floor boards) The best description is a pungent fresh garlic and rotten onion smell. It is appalling, seems worse when the house is warm...

Bleeding radiators!(in 2 senses of the word!)

We were convinced it was the drain valve at first but we already know where that is & we've used it! Too confusing - I knew it didn't sound right to have a bottom bleed valve but this is what we've been assured it is! thanks anyway.

Bleeding radiators!(in 2 senses of the word!)

They actually look like they've been added on to the rads, rather than made as part of them, if that makes sense. They're like a small (prob inch to 2 inches) chrome-type tube down near the pipe on the bottom left corner. The key fits in the top of the tube & opens the valve at the bottom...

Bleeding radiators!(in 2 senses of the word!)

All our radiators seem to have bleed valves at the bottom rather than the top - this doesn't seem right to me at all! Any ideas please? Cheers v much.

Jaguar Combi Boiler - constant loud whining noise

Does this noise happen on central heating once it has been on for a while? I would be harrasing the installer to get it sorted you have paid good money to have the system installed and he has done a botch job  very annoying. If neccesary you could ask him for his Corgi number (...

    Replacing a fitted gas hob

Only a Corgi registered installer can work on copper gas pipes. Sorry If your hob is via a rubber hose it is ok for you to connect and reconnect the cooker. Most the hobs I have seen though are on rigid pipe work. Happy to help

    Potterton Suprima not ignite

As the others have said if cannot see a spark when you hear a clicking noise then it could be the spark gap, HT lead or the PCB. If you do see a spark then from my experience it is usually the gas valve. I have changed many with the same fault. You should be able to see the spark between...

Vailant combi boiler VCW GB242 HE

Does this clicking noise sound like it is sparking or like a relay? This qiute a difficult boiler to fault find on so I'll probably be asking you a few questions before we get to the route of the problem. I don't think it is the gas valve though. Happy to help
