Makita 9169 9" grinder keeps blowing fuse

Easiest thing to do is take it to a repair shop and ask them to flash test it for you. This will show if there is an insulation problem with either the armature or field coil. If it fails a flash test then one or both of the above will need replaced - probably at more cost than a new grinder. A...

    drill

An SDS drill isn't designed for drilling into brick, it was originally designed for drilling concrete. If you use an SDS to drill brick all the way through (through an outside wall for example) it will blow half the brick out when it comes out the other side. Have a look on any outside wall...

Another online tool supplier goes pop

Internet tool companies have been a time bomb waiting to go off for a long time. They need to work on such a small margin, as the only thing they can offer is cheap prices. Most shops will tell you how little profit there is in tools anyway, let alone having to reduce it even further just to be...

    Getting generator working

It will almost certainly be stale fuel in the carb, you will need to drain the carburettor bowl (don't worry it's dead easy). Assuming it's a Honda engine, turn the fuel tap off, and look for a brass coloured bowl on the bottom of the carburettor. There will be 2 bolt on it, one dead centre...

is it me or the tools dont last as long as they used to

You said that they nearly all come from China, I'm sorry but if you are talking about what most people would class as the top brands (Dewalt, Makita, Bosch Blue, Festo, Hilti etc) then you are entirely wrong. As I said before they may make the odd cheap cordless or SDS drill built to a price for...

is it me or the tools dont last as long as they used to

Isn't that the same as you did when you said nearly everyones tools were made in China :?: As for my comment about someone turning up with a pile of cheapo tools to do work for me, it wasn't a slight against anyone who does that - I'm sure if I was constantly getting £100's or £1,000's of...

is it me or the tools dont last as long as they used to

Dear oh dear, maybe you're cheap stuff from the sheds is all made in China, but very little of the decent branded stuff is - with the exception of the £99 Hitachi or Makita type deals which go on the front cover of the screwfix catalogue and are built to hit a price. I can tell you for a fact...

    Makita BDF451 and BHP451

Would avoid any 3 speed Makita at all costs as they had massive problems with their 3 speed gearboxes. The mid-size makita machine is pretty decent & reliable.

    <£200ish Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

TTI do indeed own the three of them, and are the largest manufacturer of Cordless tools worldwide. Ryobi mitre saws on the other hand are made by Rexon - believe me I worked for them for 4 years, and have spent a number of years working for other power tool manufacturers. I'm not trying to...

    <£200ish Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Hi Mate, Your saw should be fine - Rexon build mitre saws for a few people and they are built to different standards to meet certain prices. Easiest way to explain it is comparing a no-name 18v combi for £30 against a Makita for £200 - they are both 18v combis, but one is built to a price and...

    <£200ish Sliding Compound Mitre Saw

Sorry kjacko but that is utter garbage - Bosch don't make own branded tools for anyone. They do brand up some of their accessories for other people - mainly abroad, but they absolutely 100% don't make Macallister for B&Q. Macallister mitre saws are actually made by Rexon - as are Ryobi.

    drill drivers and cordless screwdrivers

They've probably hammered the price to try & make an impact on the market. ***gets coat and leaves..****

    Interbuild in Oct

Guys like you make me laugh. What you don't seem to realise is that the salesmen (or Gareth Cheesmans as you so cleverly put it  ) are about as interested at going to these things as you are. 99% of these reps spend most of their time selling to shops / distributors where they will...

    Planning Application

Thanks for the advice guys. I think that on the application it stated something along the lines of: if there were trees present on the site then the applicant would need to have some sort of survey carried out - does anyone know anything about this sort of thing?

    Planning Application

Hi All, just looking for a bit of advice regarding a planning application for a new bungalow which has been submitted next where I live. Basically at the end of our garden is a cul-de-sac with a bit of land approx 15m x 10m. The builder who built the houses on the cul-de-sac originally also...

    Best Combi Drill

Sorry mate, but seangler is right - Bosch blue definately isn't available in any of the sheds, it's only Bosch Green. Dewalt & Makita are, although most of the Makita stuff is their cheap end stuff.
