You really need to decide for yourself -find a dealer who can show you HD compared with standard side-by-side. Decision will be a lot easier then. Only you have your eyesight.

The F connectors fit onto the front of the plate, so don't need to be angled. Are you looking for some kind of connector to attach to the cable where it meets the BACK of the faceplate? Doesn't the cable just attach to screw terminals?

Assuming it goes straight through the wall, as the prev poster said - cut it internally to remove any bends, push or pull it, either from the inside or outside to remove it, and cover the hole on the inside and out with appropriate materials.

Find out where the transmitter is - there used to be links via the BBC website to give you the locations. Make sure the aerial is pointing directly at the transmitter's location (possibly where the majority of other external aerials in the neighbourhood are directed) Make sure connections...

THe hum tells you the leads are fine, and your amplifier is fine, so the problem is defintiely with the sat receiver. Either the internal audio output stage has co-incidentally failed when you've disconnected either the mains or the audio leads - in which case it's a repair or replacement...

Just for an experiment, take a single clean length of co-ax, and plug one end into the faceplate, the other directly into the TV (just leave it loose across the lounge for the time being, or temporarily move the TV close to the faceplate) and see how that looks. If you get a decent signal...
