    replacing floorboards

It is true there is a a good chance there will be some difference. We have used this company to replicate fumed oak stain to match some fumed oak and the difference was negligable. That said it was not for flooring, it was for a display project at work where we needed to match other displays.

    replacing floorboards

If you are going to stain the original floor boards then it is possible to have a stain produced to match the finished boards. Stain the present boards and then send a sample of this along with a sample of the replacement boards off to WS Jenkins (0208 8082336) and they will produce a stain to...

How to drill hole in sink!

I've just done the same thing. I clamped a block of wood underneath the area to be drilled. Used a center punch to give me a decent start at drilling a pilot hole, around 4mm. Then used a 35mm hole saw from B&Q that stated it could could thin guage metal. It worked pretty well, though I made...

Matt over silk - is it always a bad idea?

I would also suggest not going ahead without prepping the surface. I made the mistake of painting with a silk white base coat before I applied a matt top coat. I did rough the surface (having read on post on here) before I painted the top coat but some areas I must have missed as you can see...

    Cutting Glass Tiles...?

We have just had the same problem today, we used a Plasplug tile cutter, it seemed to work fairly well even though it does not say it can cut glass. The problem we had was the tiles were small mosaics. I'm not sure if there are any special discs just for cutting glass. Simon

15mm from the boiler to 22mm into the bath

Hi, Looking at my bath it has 22mm going to the taps but only 15mm comes out of the boiler. I was going to tee off the hot water supply to feed the bath and noticed this. Will it make any difference if I use 15mm then step up to 22mm for the bath taps? At some point the 15mm must...

    socket positions next to hob.

It's a normal hob nothing wide. I made the mistake that I didn't give the electrician a drawing of the kitchen so that it was in black and white! though when you see the distance between the CCU and the next socket it's fairly obvious that you can't fit a hob between with 300mm either...

    running bathroom from mains water

Hi, I'm soon to rip out the old bathroom suite and replace it with new and was wondering is it possible to tee off the main water supply going to the boiler in the bathroom to provide cold water for the basin, bath and cistern? If so are there any considerations I would need to take into...

    socket positions next to hob.

Hello, I've just put a rule on the them and the cooker switch plate edge is 200mm from the cooker edge and 240mm above the worktop. The socket on the opposite of the hob is also 240mm above the worktop and 125mm from the edge of the hob. Though that side has the burner controls on it so...

    socket positions next to hob.

Hi, Is that a guideline / best practice or a specific measurement? I'm asking as the plumber who fitted my hob the other day has said that the cooker switch on one side of the hov and a socket on the other side are too close to be allowed by building regs! They are both 380\400mm...

    socket positions next to hob.

Hello, Can you tell me what the minimum distance is for a socket next to a gas hob and the isolator for the electric oven and are there any exceptions? I have tried searching the forums, but was unable to find any help there. :? Cheers, Simon

    help me pick drill bits

Hi, I bought this 40mm core drill for my waste pipe. You will need the corrisponding arbor to hold it in the drill (SDS of chuck) and a guide rod. You can drill the pilot hole at the same time as the core, but you will need a drill with a tapered end. I just drilled the pilot hole first...

Good place to buy a bathroom

Hi, We bought a steel bath from Plumbitall - £69 along with the mixer taps for basin and bath for £150 I think. They are not the most customer focussed people but they are cheap. We bought the basin, BTW pan and cabinets etc from Bathstore, they were originally expensive, but I whinged...

    Painting a glass splashback

If you don't want the colour to be tinted green by the glass, ask for "low iron glass" I think Opti White is the brand name of Pilkingtons low iron glass.
