Advice for best insulation/floor system please

I've accepted the fact that I'll have to spend on existing bungalow to bring up to modern standards, but the extensions and complete new roof make up about 75% of all external surfaces (!) It's 1960s cavity wall but not sure of the cavity fill.... once wall plates are off I'll know more...

Advice for best insulation/floor system please

All existing windows and doors will be changed. I'll be speccing triple glazing too. And either EWI or insulated plasterboard on existing external walls. Complete new roof and insulation. Assuming I upgrade the current walls insulation (by methods mentioned above) am I covering all bases to...

Advice for best insulation/floor system please

It's the Gt I'm interested in. I'm working with builders too, so hopefully we can avoid the concrete leaking out! In hindsight, I should have poured a slightly wider footing to accommodate 150mm as you say. Working with what I've got - is there a particularly really effective 100mm I can use...

Advice for best insulation/floor system please

Thanks for reply...: sorry i should have explained a little better - long day yesterday! I want excellent u values as I plan on having a Air/ground source HP. And underfloor wet heating in the main rooms. The large extension will be constructed with 100mm brick and block, and 100mm full filled...

Advice for best insulation/floor system please

evening all, any recommendations for my extension please? I'm on the brink of ordering a lite cast GT15 (U value of 0.15) block and beam system. As a comparison - what are the best types of insulation for great u values - plenty of products at builders merchants but most builders i talk to...

    Help with understanding blocks please....

You mean like a biomass boiler in the utility as opposed to a woodburner stove in the lounge?

    Help with understanding blocks please....

The Mrs and I have had a Dream for a while now of the crackling log fire - so as much as I'm pro green/renewable, vanity has won versus the wood pellets! Good shout on getting references first

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Understood - thanks for that info. The place could probably do with repointing anyway, so I'm happy for a pro to do any pointing, assuming they are happy that slips would give a similar finish (again, purely for the EWI scenario)

    Help with understanding blocks please....

I'd love a GSHP Doggit, but I'm told I need a garden with a footprint of treble the square meterage of the house - which I haven't. Bore hole alternative method will exceed my budget for CH. Ideally I'd have as green-a-set up as poss - with an ASHP being powered by PV, with battery storage etc...

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Am I wrong in assuming they look exactly the same as facing bricks then? Thought many were 20mm slices of bricks anyway? Plus if you read above you'll see I'm considering EWI so I'd have to slip em to keep on with the neighbours. Think you're missing the point that it's not I don't want to hire...

Given I'm probably going to give an Air Source HP a try, maximum thermal efficiency is a must. Cheers !

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Would you know what blocks / rating you'd use internally if a steel is going in? Thanks woody. Defo stick to the bungalow for now, maybe flats in a couple of decades ... :-) I was considering build in blocks then cover with slips for a couple of reasons- 1) if a block Covers approx 6/7...

More great info, thank you! I'm considering maybe a Jetfloor/Litecast GT block and beam construction for the ground floor. Quotes on their way!

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Thanks for that info Doggit. The extension is being done via a building notice. The EWI I would only apply to the current building that is not being renovated at a later date.

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Hi fella, Appreciate the advice. I have a family friend that has built plots for most of his life, so he is throwing contacts my way as I go into each stage. I'm an avid DIY-er so want to be able to get my hands dirty where I can, knock up, labour, plan, etc etc but leave the technical bits...

    Help with understanding blocks please....

Morning all, Need some help please. I'm researching blocks to buy for my extension. 100mm + 100mm full-fill + 100mm What's the main purpose for concrete blocks and for aerated blocks? IE does one suit inner/outer skins better? I'm building off of a building notice so no specs from a SE -...

    Cavity wall insulation advice please

Yes I did wonder if 'Jeff' was someone with too much time on his hands after I re-read it..... His stats would surely make retrofitting banned if they were accurate!

    Cavity wall insulation advice please

Thanks all. I think I'll go with internal insulated plasterboard then. My property is currently rectangular, and the Right side is being rebuilt and extending rearward. So just one long length, one short side length and around a third of the other long length are the walls in question - I'll...

    Cavity wall insulation advice please

Just FYI..... I've read this article online, whether or not it's worthy advice is up to the reader, but helped to better inform me. http://www.askjeff.co.uk/cavity-wall-fill/ personally I'll probably avoid the blown fibre now, and investigate whether I can insulate from internally, plus also...
