Plastic Pipe to a uprigth radiator.

I agree plastic to those types of rad is a no no. Why do you think I should upgrade? The system only 15 ish years old and is working file and we get good efficiency and heat from it.

Plastic Pipe to a uprigth radiator.

Guys. We are giving out kitchen a bit of a facelift. The old white radiator is showing its age so we are going to replace it with a modern looking black upright model which will use a bottom feed/side feed. Our current system uses 10mm plastic pipe with the follow in fittings. When fitting...

Turning off the power at the meter.

Hi. I would like to power off my house from the meter, as I know parts of the consumer unit are still live even once the master switch is off. In my old house it was pretty simple. Big red switch next to the meter. In my new house the meter is different. I assume the key is in the...

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

Thanks for the assistance guys. If time permits I think I'll do all the donkey work and then get the sparky in to test it all.

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

I think this is my best option and create joint in the loft space. Just my OCD then to battle as one cable will be red/black the other brown/blue. Once I've done that, get the sparky in the test and add the new unit. Might keep the costs down a little. @EFLImpudence PS. Shirley is nick name...

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

I'm very confident it is a ring main cable. There are two cables running down the wall to the socket below (slightly to right of the two wires, which is the reason I believed the tester I used) which has two wires connected to it. I've attached a diagram. I've removed some plaster to accesses...

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

I have multi meter so I could test continuing but that is all. I also want a new consumer unit adding in the garage. Which i know a sparky must do. Might be worth getting one in do repair, test and add the new unit.

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

I able to test with my socket tester which does correct wiring and earth impedance. Is this sufficient...

    Damaged Ring Main Cable

Hi. My 3in1 detector failed to warm me about a ring main cable in the wall. When I put the screw in the raw plug the point of the screw pierced the cable and tripped the RCD. The cable runs up the wall and into the loft space which I have access too. So running a new cable from the socket...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Are you saying that because I have a transformer based supply the introduced AC test wont prove anything of any value? From the previous post, I took earth to be earth in the supply wire and 0 volts to be the earth of the DC 12v system. Can neutral also be called 0 volts, if so do the probes...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Had I put the probes in the correct place? As a quick test, I have just rewired the alarm to a socket via a plug to test what AC is introduced via that route. The reading still came out to high 28v. Does this indicate a general problem with the house wiring? I've order a filter as a matter of...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Hi Mark If I did it correctly I got 36v. I've have attached a picture, I put one probe (black) on the earth at the connector and the other probe on the 0v. I've put some red circles on picture of where I measured and attached a picture of multi meter output. The Alarm is now back on its normal...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Agreed, I used the wrong phase. Ultimately, the 240v source for the alarm comes from the lighting circuit.

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Guys, Sorry for the delay, having a new baby in the house things move slowly. This problem has now come to a head so it needs fixing and I looked at it over the weekend. I have tested the tamper circuit with my multi meter and that has continuity so I don't thing it is a tamper issue also...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Thanks for the detailed response. This will give me plenty to go at over the weekend. Sorry, my bad. I'm no electrical expert, just a keen DiY person. I've googled and I now understand the difference. I agree, I have not totally discounted this as the source, it could be intentional. I...

Alarm triggered by switching a light on.

Hi Guys. Last week I moved into my new property, she is not perfect and needs some TLC. I have a very positive attitude and I want to learn and try to better myself where possible. This is the main reason for joining this forum. The first issue I have come across is the house alarm and I...
