Building new founds inside building using old brick?

Some of you might have seen my project thread/blog. Existing founds are about 50cm deep, built in 1950's, shuttered concrete, with no rebar reinforcement, and its not subsiding and has stood there for over 60 years with no issues. Question is, rather than digging a trench and filling it...

    Alarm Recommendations

I did have a brief think about it, and figured tip-ex and a permanent marker would go a long way  (just kidding!) Looking at that voice module thingy, 2 14 second messages... Again, I don't know the functionality of these systems... But can you make it run the recorded message when...

    Alarm Recommendations

This will be an unmonitored uncertified system for ease of mind, so don't worry chaps, not putting you out of business! The Alarm systems for sale here are HUGELY expensive, DIY makes much more sense for the wallet and has the same outcome.

    Alarm Recommendations

Just had a play in Photoshop... Bathroom windows will be so small it will be almost impossible to get in, and about 2.5M off the ground outside. Plus I *think* there is a regulation against having LV items in a bathroom here, unless they have the appropriate IP rating, from what I can...

    Alarm Recommendations

Can a proximity reader replace a keypad all together, or are there only certain brands that can support that? I was thinking (hoping) to get away with one keypad with integrated fob reader for the top side of the house in the drawing, and just a proximity reader for the bottom side of the...

    Alarm Recommendations

I am looking into an alarm system to put into an old house over the next few months (The property is in Slovakia) We are looking for an unmonitored system which will put granny's mind at rest, being all alone at home and vulnerable etc (You know how it is!) The house is a "bungalow" as...

Lots of fencing, not a lot of money....

Just so you're aware.. Hens can fly over a standard 1M stock fence, and fit through standard stock fence netting. Dogs can chew through chicken wire.. so you'd need to double up on it (and also sink it into the ground)

    6kw on 13amp socket

Did it come with a 13 amp fused plug on the end of it?! P = I * V 13 * 240 = 3120W And then it states 6KW on the details of the device?

    Septic tank overflowing

As far as I'm aware all NEW systems must comply to regulations. Existing systems that were in place before the regulations can remain functioning until they require replacing or are uneconomical to repair. But if you are modifying or renewing it you must comply to the new regulations...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

That's quite a smart observation there actually, if monitoring everything using CT stuff, it would give a percentage, then take that percentage from the REAL (Supplied by Electricity board) meter. But still, that involves calculating stuff, and having to buy multiple meters :D I got the...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

It does have to be kind of accurate, as she will be working out how much she needs to pay towards the total bill. Using the Inductive type CT ones I have no idea how accurate they would be, without measuring Power Factor and all that malarky first. The idea of a DIN one means its neat and...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

Thank you very much for clarifying that :) So, if I understand this correctly: Iz takes into account that its own value may be exceeded up to 1.45 times for up to an hour. If I take an alternative device (Type C or Fusible wire or something), I may take my 1.45 times Iz value, deduct...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

Thank you for those links John. One thing that confuses me though, and having read through various posts on here. The cables Rating should be greater or equal to the MCB's rating? Iz >=In Running 1.45 x In for up to an hour before tripping is perfectly permissible? Say I were to...

    Din mounted KWH meters.

Thanks John, that is very informative. I don't think accuracy is that much of an issue as the times it will exceed 45A won't be that great. It is just to give Granny a ball-park figure of what she is consuming in the whole house. I never knew that an MCB would carry a greater current...
