    rcd trips when lamp blows

I'm not an electrician but.... Doesn't a RCD detect an imbalance between the flow of current between the outgoing (L) and incoming (N) connection, using the CPC (PE) as reference "0"? If a filament breaks, the outgoing (L) will be sending a flow of current out, which gets consumed by the...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

I'm just sitting back reading all of this discussion and wondering how it connects to the original question in hand...

    Fixing battening to wall

It really depends on what the wall is made of that you are screwing into, and also what kind of loading will be on the battens .

Built in oven doesn't fit, HELP!

I was under the impression that braided flexi hoses had to be used due to potential movement of said oven, as well as for hygiene reasons to clean under and around the oven. With the flexi hose also comes a wall bracket which the device is chained to, so it can not "pull" on the hose. Or...

My House renovation in Slovakia Blog.

It's in the South east of the country, near the second largest city called Kosice. All going well, should hopefully get round to fitting the laminate flooring tomorrow for the first room :)

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

Thanks for your reply Ericmark. Since quite a few people seem to be bent on writing off ring circuits for various reasons, perhaps I should do the same in light of what I read on the other thread today. Only problem is, from end to end I have approximately 40M of cable in one room. It is...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

I apologise for jumping to rash conclusions about ulterior motives and you appearing to be a smart arse. I am now starting to think you are one of these people who genuinely thinks that their word choice and vocabulary and method of conveying information is the way it is supposed to be done...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

We are all entitled to our own opinions, and we can choose to read or ignore whatever we like, I completely agree with that. What I do not agree with however, is how you have completely derailed and attempted to undermine this thread by asking irrelevant questions, upon receiving answers to...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

I'm tempted to try this magic "Ignore" button above Ban All Sheds name :) And there you go again, being a smartarse... Editing your own post behind you to make other people look stupid, then cleverly linking the sentence together with my comment about your motives on this forum, bravo! *clap...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

Your proving to be very popular Ban All sheds... Top brownie points for you. I asked a simple question, I've got several answers from people who just answered the question to the best of their knowledge. You wanted to play cat and mouse, I played along. Your inputs in this thread...

    Electrics

Unless you are "competent" I'd phone an electrician. Damaged cables are a fire risk. Isolate supply, strip back damaged cable and connect a new section into it using two junction boxes on either end, or if you have enough spare, you might get away with one junction box.

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

Don't hire cowboys that have no clue and randomly connect things without looking. In the house in question, there was a "Spine" down the middle of the house from which all the outlets were sourced. Additions had been made to this circuit. That's why I referred to them as "Spurs" off an...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

Thanks for the insight spacecat. Banallsheds, I'm not sure what you are hoping to accomplish with your questions, but they aren't very relevant to the original question. I find them rather.... argumentative and confrontational to be honest with you. But just to see where this will go...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I was just curious as to how the ratings work since your effectively doubling the CCC. (Granted, its all relative to distance for each leg to load). The local electrician here had never heard of ring circuits, he went off and did some research and...

Ring Circuits and Current Carrying Capacity theory?

I've got a question. Say you where to create a ring circuit which is 50M long from end to end The cable is 2.5mm2 T&E. Since each socket is being supplied with TWO cables, does that make the current carrying capacity be subject to 5mm2? The max cable load for a single strand of...

Best way to advertise plumbing services?

And here's me thinking this is a DIY site....? Everyone on here started out at some point, and learnt over time from their own mistakes. I'm very surprised so many of you "Professionals" are jumping on the bandwagon of slating this guy. If this is the choice of career he wants to...

Greenhouse foundations - what to do?

Yes creosote flavoured veggies can't be very good for your health :) depending on the soil condition, you most likely will get away with digging down to the hard-ish soil, and just laying breezeblocks with a slight gap between each block on their side up to the desired height. This way...

How would you finish this wall?

Where did the stone come from in the first place? Might be possible to dig a borrow pit on your land and screen the material for the boulders, then backfill again, but for 10 tonnes that might be a bit too much work! (Especially with winter coming now, you'd be living in a mud-hole.)
