Any opinions on Villeroy and Boch sanitaryware?

Does anyone have any views on the quality of V and B sinks and toilets, any issues to do with installing etc.? Are they generally considered a good brand (if a little pricey)? Thanks in advance.

British Gas says I need new thermostat. Is this right?

It's an Ideal Classic and I had the control set to 6 (max).

British Gas says I need new thermostat. Is this right?

I only say that because he works for BG and isn't some bloke in a stetson!

British Gas says I need new thermostat. Is this right?

We've been having a long-running noise/banging pipes problem with our boiler/hot water system http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=71217 Finally got B.G engineer round who spent about 5 mins looking at the system (during which the noises didn't happen) and said straight away we...

Was advised today not to buy porcelain tiles for bathroom

Just been getting a few quotes for getting a bathroom done and the last fitter who came round advised us quite specifically not to get porcelain tiles due to problems with drilling through them (wearing out bits etc.). Which is a pain because the one tile that I've seen so far that I like...

    Grundfos pump suddenly very noisy?

I've been tinkering with pump and boiler settings ever since my first post but the problem has never gone away, and seems to be getting worse. The noise now isn't really focussed on the pump, but in the pipes near the pump. What happens now is that if I switch on the Hot Water only, I get...

Bathroom products and brands - The Good and the Bad

Has anyone tried Merlyn shower products? Seems like a slightly cheaper alternative to the pricey Daryl range (which we had been considering).

Bathroom products and brands - The Good and the Bad

What's the board's overall opinion of bathstore.com? Web reviews seem a bit mixed. I see that they stock Kaldewei baths, though, which a plumber has recommended to me.

Bathroom products and brands - The Good and the Bad

I was wondering if any experienced plumbers/bathroom fitters out there would like to recommend any brands or products that they swear by in terms of durability and quality. I am about to embark of a bathroom renovation and wil be choosing products (suite, shower enclosure etc.). Don't want to...

If you try bleeding a rad but nothing comes out...

Thanks for all the tips. I checked the tank in the loft and there was plenty of water. In the end, all I had to do was bleed it again but with the heating and hot water OFF. Air came out as expected and the radiator is fine now. I was a bit thrown the first time when nothing came out at...

If you try bleeding a rad but nothing comes out...

... what does it mean? No air, no water. I thought one or the other had to come out? I was bleeding an upstairs rad because it was cold at the top but hot at the bottom, and I thought this was because of trapped air. I did this whilst the CH was on. Does anyone have any advice?

    Gurgling radiators and pipes.

I just found this old post after a search. Can someone explain why this would work, and whether thay also advise doing this for gurgling pipes/rads?

    combi not firing up??

The overheat switch may have tripped. As said above, you should locate the button and reset it. On my boiler its easily accessible, not sure about your baxi though

    Quite a Poser

If your problem was anything like mine http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=71217 I found that turning the pump up to level 3 for a while, then setting back down to 2, made the noises go away. No idea what the problem was but boosting the pump speed for a while seemed to do...

    Grundfos pump suddenly very noisy?

As a last resort before calling BG, I tried changing the pump setting to number 3. Funnily enough this seemed to stop the overheat switch tripping. I still got the odd noise and gurgling but not as bad as before. I've now changed it back down to level 2 again and it seems to be okay...

    Grundfos pump suddenly very noisy?

Hi scaby, I'll have a look for it tonight. Should I be looking in the area of the airing cupboard below? Sorry but I don't what the 'f and e' is you mentioned before! Does this sound more like a lack of water in the system, rather than a dodgy thermostat, would you say?

    Grundfos pump suddenly very noisy?

This would make sense because when I unscrewed the bleed screw on the Grundfos nothing came out. I did check the 'header tank' in the attic, as recommened, and that had plenty of water in it. Does that fit in with the theory? If water level is the problem, how do I add more water...

    Grundfos pump suddenly very noisy?

I *think* they are thermostatic. At least, they have numbers on them. But I should say that last night we tried the hot water only (no central heating) and it still made the noises, banging, overheat switch tripped etc.
