    Steering lock replacement

Point taken, test drive didn't seem to raise any concerns. will be doing a more extensive test over the w/e. I also referred to the Haynes manual which classed the work as suitable for a competent DIYer. I can see the argument of 'competence' rising again........ :?

A Central Heating book for Xmas?

I have also tried (in vain) to find a reasonable DIY book on plumbing and central heating. A search in the local library helped by at least finding out which books I didn't want. I have looked at the Mike Lawrence book, which was Ok but not very modern and the version I had certainly needed...

Worcester Bosch HE40+ and low central heating temperature

Thanks, I'll discuss with the plumber and try and convince him the extra work is needed :)

Worcester Bosch HE40+ and low central heating temperature

sorry, meant to say this 'guidance' suggests that only a third of the rads should have TRVs, the rest just normal lockshield valves. My other worry is the siting of the flue. The boiler is to go in the old chimney hearth space in the kitchen which means that if the flue were to be sent out...

Worcester Bosch HE40+ and low central heating temperature

Kevplumb, I am having a 35HE+ installed at the w/e - should the gas pipe be 22mm or 28mm? Run from the meter is about 3m plus 5 to 6 bends. Am I correct in thinking that TRVs should be installed on all radiators bar the one where the thermostat is to be fitted? If so, I take it this rad will...

    Steering lock replacement

Thanks for your reply knackers. I have priced a used replacement lock for £60. I hope to take out the lock at the w/e but was hoping the part wouldn't have cost a quarter of the cars value! Question is, can the steering be safely operated without a steering lock? I have a Stop lock Pro for...

    Steering lock replacement

Following on from K reg (93) Fiesta 1.1LX "unauthorised" trip  , I need to replace the steering lock. The scumbags don't appear to have damaged the ignition as the key still works and starts the engine, but it is obvious that they have broken some teeth and the lock, which now fails to...

    Heated Towel Radiator Piping

I am plannng on fitting a chrome towel radiator into the bathroom shortly and was hoping to conceil the pipes in the wall as the radiator will be positioned a couple of feet above the floor level. Reading through previous posts it has been said that central heating pipes shouldn't be placed...

Which boiler make to go for

Following much research and opinion seeking :? I have finally narrowed by choice on new boiler down to an Alpha CD32C or a WB Greenstar 35HE Plus. Arguments on pros and cons of condensing boilers aside, I would really welcome any opinions/experience of performance and reliability of these...

    Stolen recovered - door damage

I had considered that 'repair' route but as yet have not got round to sourcing supply and materials. Where did you get the door from? Was it fitted by the supplier? Cheers.

Advice needed - replacing immersion heater cable.

You may also wish to assess whether you need to have your immersion on constantly. I often tend to use the immersion for heating the hot water cyclinder, especially in the summer and find that having the immersion on for only 20-30 minutes gives plenty of hot water, which remains at an adequate...

    Cable in steel conduit

Sorry it was a misprint, meant to say 2.5mmT&E for the power circuits - up all night trying to console a colicky baby :? Is there an issue with the spacing within the conduit?

    Circular saw £25 - £50

I picked up a B&Q own brand with laser sight guide for about £30 which seemed to do a good job of cutting through 12mm chipboard. For doing short accurate cuts though I think you might find an electric mitre saw a better bet, though they seem to be more expensive for a decent one. If you aren't...

    Cable in steel conduit

Just catching up on this post which has now slightly worried me  I recently re-wired my house, following all relevent guidance I could lay my hands on, I thought was acting correctly by running 1.5T&E through plastic conduit to wire the power and 1.0T&E for lighting circuits of my...

    Worcester Greenstar

Plumber has suggested a Worcester Greenstar as a replacement for my Vulcan Continental. Has anyone any experience good or bad on their performance and reliability? Thinking of possibly the 30 HE or 35 HE (3bed semi, 10 rads). Is the 'Plus' model worth the extra dosh? Cheers.

    Laying Tiles on Floorboards

I will shortly be having the exact same predicament for my bathroom and toilet! I had also considered that idea but perhaps thought that the ply would not be strong enough longterm so had discounted the idea. I also thought that once I had decent carpet and underlay down on the landing then the...

Tile under the toilet or round it?

This was touched on in a previous post though my situation is slightly different. I am installing a new tiled floor in the toilet, which is on floor boards. Do i tile first and put the toilet on top or tile around the toilet? I shouldn't suffer from the 'tenting' reaction possible from laminate...

    Stolen recovered - door damage

Hi all, Just recovered my K reg Fiesta from its unauthorised trip last Friday night and the scumbags have bent the top of the passenger door back about 3-4 inches in order to gain access. Does anyone know the best way of bending it back or is it best left to a garage? They have also knackered...
