Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

Grief guys really opened up a hornets nest here. I like downlighters in bathrooms they look modern & stylish. Yes it's a ballache above the ceiling with all the farting around to seal, cap, insulate safely etc etc. I have 4 to cap and with delivery it's nearly £50 which is money i'd...

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

Yes they are in a bathroom - excuse my ignorance but why is the moisture prevention so important ? Would it be better not to cover the downlighters at all ? - if I dont all bathroom heat will fly out of the openings where the lights are.

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

Guys, I'm just in the process of insulating my loft and have an area where 4 downlighters are exposed in the roofspace. At present there is no insulation over the downlighters , just the cables exposed. I'd like to lay a blanket of insualtion over the area but am concerned about any potential...

Loft insulation - replace existing or overlay ?

Guys, I was lucky enough to snap up 18 rolls of 170mm insulation for £18 in the Npower promotion. Tomorrow I have unfortuneately the task of laying it all  My loft presently has insulation between the joists so I was simply planning on laying this new stuff over the top of existing...

Please help - pond pump & filter tripping circuit

Thanks Guys for your help - the consensus seems to point to the pump. I'll try the pump indoors in the sink and see if the same happens, if it does i'll replace it, if it doesn't i'll be a little confused ;-)

Please help - pond pump & filter tripping circuit

Guys, I've an outside power socket that runs a pump & filter for over a year now, recently the electrics in the house tripped out, i reset the switch in the main fuse box and 10mins later it went again. I decided to start unplugging things to see what was causing it and starting outside...

Help balancing all rads in my system - 2 not playing ball.

Thanks again Dave - so in an ideal world keeping the boiler in the condensing range ie under 55c will yield best effeciency. I'll try to go for 74 out of boiler and 54 back in and work from there.

So all modern boilers work off the 20C diff ? - noticed the house felt a bit colder y/day reducing the drops to 20C

Guys - you obviously know you stuff far more than i do but just out of interest can someone point out on the vokera spec sheets where it tells you about the boiler differential ? Every article i've read about balancign talks about the 11-12C rad differential.....they are obviously old school...

Help balancing all rads in my system - 2 not playing ball.

Well my usage hasn't really fallen a great deal which is a shame - was hoping by balancing and then balancing with a greater differential ie 20C the gas usage would drop and the heat distribution across the house improve. Like everyone i was hoping to reduce my gas usage but I spose at least...

Help balancing all rads in my system - 2 not playing ball.

Well i've had my 1st stab and getting a differential of around 20c across the rads. It went ok in the main but it got me thinking further if I set the boiler at given temp ie max for example does if effect the energy consumption if you increase the temperature drop across the rad...i'm...

Help balancing all rads in my system - 2 not playing ball.

Thanks again you've been very helpful :D Can I ask a couple more questions please :- 1) What dictates the boiler flow differential ? - is it pre-determined by the boiler manufacturer ?...will it always reamin the same regardless of the flow temperature setting on the boiler ?....ie if I...
