thanks JobAndKnock, the photos are of the edge of the tile which is about 4mm thick and the pic shows half that, ie 2mm which will give you an idea of scale. I suspect that they are asbestos so I want to be sure before I cut them to fit some brackets. BTW I intend using an appropriate face...

Hi newbi here... can anyone tell me is this is manmade asbestos slate? its off an ex council house that was reroofed in the 80's the slates are grey, 500mm x 250mm. there aren't any markings on them (AC or NT). the pics are off a usb microscope
