    Oil boiler an Building Regs

Thanks. But to be clear, the law requires certification (either via OFTEC or direct with the council) for a replacement boiler? The relevance here is that a property buyer's mortgage lender is insisting on seeing the certification, or on the seller providing indemnity insurance.

    Oil boiler an Building Regs

When an existing oil boiler is replaced with a new one, is it a requirement to notify Building Control?

    Cost for power flush

Seems a much better value solution, but a) I don't have the time (or confdence - I always end up with leaks when I try plumbing!) b) what about the boiler/Heat Exchanger? True. Just interested if the process described is sensible? Usual? Should one ask an engineer if he'll do the same and if...

    Cost for power flush

So the BR Gas engineer gave me a pep talk on power flushing. It seems to make sense but I'd appreciate comment from Independant engineers..... Reasons he gave why BG Power Flush costs more: 1) Lifetime guarantee. Never need another PF (as long as we maintain the monthly contract!) 2)...

    Cost for power flush

Well my piece of string is 32.5" long. 4 bed house. 13 rads. etc. (Let me know what the 'etc' is and I'll answer!)

    Cost for power flush

It's a Glow Worm 30 hx1 (condensing). North London. Related Q: how long does a powerflush take?

    Cost for power flush

Mum's system is covered by BG contract. Very noisy ineficient boiler. Engineer came to resolve, and service. He says heat exchanger cannot get rid of the heat fast enough due to blockages. He removed the pump, and cleared a pipe blockage there (pump works fine) but thinks more blockage...

    leak from isolation valve

Replacing a tap washer, I turnd off the isolation valve. http://www.screwfix.com/p/15mm-isolating-valve-pack-of-10/32802 As I turned the valve, water spurted out, but then ceased as I reached the of position. Same happend later as I turned it back on again later. It came from the...

    Oil boiler failt

One week on and the boiler works fine. Not sure what transfomer does or why it was causing boiler to cut out, but hey! the engineer knew! Thanks all.

    Oil boiler failt

Engineer here. Is going to try a new 'transformer' and see if that helps.... If not, he'll come back free and replace the original. Also found 'flimsy electrodes, maybe off a gas boiler?' which he's replacing. Showed me mine, and the replacement which is definately more sturdy.

    choosing tyres

Many thanks all. The prices for the tyres I listed came from Black Circle, Tyresonline, F1 auto online, etyres etc. All were around £80 - £90 fully fitted. Previously I've had Michelin Primacy HPs - partly because Michlin used to give a cashback fuel card with them! 225 / 45 / 17 / W...

    choosing tyres

How does one select a make? Asking 'the experts' is no good - visit 4 different tyre shops and you'll get 4 different recomendations! Is it best just to go by the 3 ratings (noise, fuel efficiency, wet grip)? What about longevity? Dry grip? etc etc Comparing online suppliers for my...

    Oil boiler failt

I believe he replaced solenoid a year or two back (not 100% sure). Balanced flue.....? No idea. How do I check? Boiler is in a small downstairs loo (door normally open) with a ventilation grill just above floor level and another in the ceiling (to attic above, which also is ventilated)

    Oil boiler failt

It's a 'Utility Boiler' so there is only a burner reset button.

    Oil boiler failt

I've had a Eurocal Turco 2000 70/90 oil boiler for about 8 years. Throughout that time it has had the intermittant fault of cutting out. It generally restarts when you press the re-set button, but occassionally you have to wait a half-hour or so. For the last 4-5 years the same OFTEC...

    Recommend a wire less thermostat.

I've had a digistat for many years. It's been reliable and does exactly what I want it to. http://www.draytoncontrols.co.uk/Digistat2RFProgrammableRoomThermostatWireless.aspx

    new lid for water tank

So I bought the lid... and it was too small. My fault. Anyway the good news is wickes will take it back. So.. sounds a silly question but where does one go to buy a simple sheet of plastic? I mean everything is made of plastic these days, but if you just want a plain sheet that can be cut to...

    new lid for water tank

My mum's loft tank had water from the overflow so I went up and found the cover was just hardboard which had got wet, broken, and fallen onto the ball valve. So overflow sorted but need a new cover.. Should it be insulated? I've see these which seem the right size - will they do the...

    Fridge thermostat

I've now installed two new theromstats - very pleased with self! The Osprey fridge now works fine, but the Beko does not. Where can I find a wiring diagramme for a Beko RC110? I re-connected the wires exactly as they were on the old stat. However the old stat had 2 wires joined together...
