    My Complete DIY Rewire

...I don't always see eye-to-eye with b-a-s but I would ask where are the mods on this. They should be more active in splitting clearly off-topic discussions. And the older-hands should know better, and create new academically focused threads.

    My Complete DIY Rewire

This is the worst example of diynot/electrics. The clearly incompetent and irrational OP had not been seen for a couple of pages yet you're arguing academic points that he didn't even raise. The OP is so magnificently out of his depth that I would have thought there would be enough material...

Electrician gone on holl's and plasterer coming at weekend !

...or bring in another electrician to replace the one who has suddenly and unpredictably "gone on holiday". I'm pretty sure Leeds has more than one electrician, and you can pay the new one out of the money you would have paid the holidaying contractor but now will not be, as he is on holiday...

    Wiring layout

As an aside, this caused me to recall that my attic has similar notched rafters just under the flooring. We moved in around three years ago and I noticed that the previous occupant had used a sharpie / marker to trace the route of the cable across the flooring with "MAINS!" written every foot or...

    A bit about us..

I'd forgotten about that thread, and was then surprised to find that I'd responded to it! Good point, flyingspark. While this is a fascinating sub-forum, it's always struck me as being a little impersonal. On other forums where I'm active (less than five) people are very open about what they...

    Problem with a generator

Hi John finally got back to the garage :D See pics below - my initial impression was that it all looks very clean, so I may be heading the wrong direction :( I wonder what the little flecks of red fluid are in the last picture...?

    My Complete DIY Rewire

Well put, IJWS. It's a shame that b-a-s, who had been going through a pretty good patch in terms of patience in dealing with people recently, seems to have reverted back to his original behaviour and couldn't have put his point in as clear and concise a manner as you did. And to...

    Problem with a generator

Cool - thanks, Paul - I'll give that a go Is there anything to watch out for when stripping a carb - springs that will ping away or owt like that? Edit: Ahhh.... found some how-to guides on t'internet. Seems moderately tricky, but I'll give it a go :D

    Flex used in walls?

If it helps, and you're using Google Chrome, right-clicking on the images and selecting "Open image in new tab" displays them at a sensible scale. (dunno whether other browsers have this option)

    Problem with a generator

(posting in the garden section because I have seen similar questions re petrol mowers, plus it lives in my garden shed :D - happy for a mod to move if that is deemed necessary) Having a problem with my little generator which is refusing to start. The engine turns over fine, and seems to have...
