    Balancing central heating

No. Usually you can fully close the valve, undo the gland nut and remove, loosely wrap ptfe tape round the spindle about 15 times, push the gland nut back over the spindle pushing the ptfe tape fully within the valve and tighten the nut. When you open the valve you may need to tighten the gland...

    Advice Please

I have in the past signed off work that wasn't my own but I invoiced for my time to thoroughly check everything plus a bit extra for doing something I didn't really want to do. Even then it was because it was at a friends house after the person that fitted the boiler didn't register it. I...

bleeding radiator question-central heating left on

It won't cause a problem it's just that when you bleed the radiators when they are cold the water isn't moving as the pump will be off and as a result all of the air will have risen to the top of the radiator. Therefore you are likely to bleed more of the air out when it is cold compared to when...

    thermostatic radiator valves

I also use wd40 and just work the pin in and out till it is moving freely. The problem is that during the summer months due to the temperature the pin will fully depressed and seizes up. After a bit of wd40 I find they are ok over the winter as they will be moving in and out regularly.

Replace boiler parts every so often?

If you're that concerned why don't you just buy spare parts and wait till parts fail. This way you get the full life from the part that in use and your plumber will be able to repair the boiler with one visit at any time of the day, within reason. I hate getting called to a boiler breakdown when...

Are all my radiators on the wrong way around?

As long as your thermostatic valves are reversible then it doesn't matter. It should still work even if they aren't reversible and have been put on the return but they will make a clicking sound.

Cental heating nightmare - help me solve a 12 month problem!

It's not actually 'pumping' over. The vent and cold feed should be upstream of the pump. It's overheating due to poor circulation and as a result the water is expanding and going up the vent pipe and into the tank.

    Help with back boiler issue

Obviously the cold feed (outlet from tank that feeds the heating system) has been blocked in the past, cut out and combined with the vent pipe. There's nothing wrong with doing this but obviously running uphill isn't the greatest piece of workmanship I've seen. However as long as the connection...

If there is a link in the 24v room stat terminals you need to remove it. Then depending if you want to use 24v switching you connect to and from that terminal with your room stat. If it's 240v switching the. There is a 240v room stat terminal next to the LNE terminals in the boiler.

System boiler with no pump overrun

The new baxi range of boilers don't require a pump overrun or permanent live but I have never fitted one so can't comment on the quality or reliability of the boiler. Have from people on here that they are ok.

High pressure taps on gravity fed water system??

Yeah get a Stuart turner monsoon pump. As opposed to their shower mate range these are designed for more than one outlet. The only problem with this is that your toilet will be pumped and it makes a hell of a noise when someone goes to the loo in the early hours. If you can run a separate...

Nest Thermostat fitting on Easicom 28, Glow Worm

Is there a link in the room stat terminals within the boiler. If so it is permanently switched live. This must be removed then the timer switched to permanently on and this will basically hand over the control to the Nest.

    2 cold rads downstairs

It won't be a problem with the pump if there's only 8 rads on the system. It's more likely that it needs balancing properly. Anyway I'm pretty sure the pump is exactly the same in an 824 as an 830. The difference is more heat output. I'm sure your boiler would cope if balanced properly but an...

Do all CH boilers have supply pipes in the same order?

Generally the main 5 pipes are in the same order but not always the condense. For example I think worcesters connect to condense trap on the LHS.
