    Every night at about 11.30pm out boiler switches on and something starts up in the airing cupboard for about 10-15 minutes. We have an Apollo boiler and this is on a timer to come on in morning and go off mid evening. Anyone know what is happening and whether it should be or not.

    Our boiler has 2 settings, Central heating and hot water, or just hot water, which I imagine would be the same with most boilers. So if the water is drained from the Radiators why can't the boiler just carry on heating the hot water system as we still have water running out of the taps?

    I think we are. Our plumber didn't turn the boiler off so we assumed the hot water wouldn't be affected. As far as we knew the hot water in taps and hot water in radiators were on separate loops. We've switched the boiler off now and humming stopped which makes sense now, the pump was getting...
