I actually meant what's the surface of the tile...is it rough/glossy/matt finish? Why not take them up and do it properly? Are the tiles on concrete or wood?

Slotted head are crap. Philips are better, but Robertson are the best.

I would use plywood, glued and screwed. Leave little gaps between the sheets for expansion.

The tiles will show through.

There is a product that colours grout, but I find it looks painted. You can always scrape out the old grout and re-grout. That's time consuming, though unless you have the proper tools.

It can be done. What's the surface like on your tiles? Price? What's the m2?
