Ground Floor Lighting Circuit Under Groundfloor Floorboards

Basically... is the concept feasable? The reason i ask is that i have a ground floor flat, hence no access to the ceiling space from above. So instead of hacking lots of lovley holes in the ceiling to run a new loop-in lighting ring I thought you could use junction boxes under the floor...

    Installing Outside Light

I don't see any other option as I don't want to put in a socket just for that but I see your point that it isn't ideal. Thanks for your advice

    Installing Outside Light

Thanks for your replies breezer and Lectrician So i'll extend the lighting circuit and I think that i may be able to place the light in such a position that it will be in the zone described as: ... meaning no special protection required. Or have i misunderstood?

    Installing Outside Light

I would like to install an outside light (not a floodlight... just a normal light at the front door). This light will be placed on the outside wall of either the bedroom (ground floor flat) or the living room. My question is... do the regs require protection if i run the cable directly...

    Rewiring Combi Boiler Supply

I'm getting an TN-C-S arrangement fitted so non rcd protection seems sensible to me. I'll also check the cable calculations when i get the correct spec from boiler manufacturers so that seems to have answered my query. Many thanks baldelectrician

    Rewiring Combi Boiler Supply

So on own circuit. No problem with regs as i'm doing entire property through a Building Control Notification. Should it be protected by RCD or not? And what size would theMCB and cabling commonly be? (It's on my list of things to do to get the correct spec for the boiler) Thanks again

    Rewiring Combi Boiler Supply

I'm looking to replace the wiring for my combi boiler... Would you put it on a FCU through the ring main or would you put it on it's own circuit (with appropriate switch)? Also, what size and type of cable is commonly used? Thanks in advance

Major Rewire of My New Flat

Major Rewire of My New Flat

Latest update: I rang NEDL (my rec) and informed them of the exposed wires at child height and they indeed granted me an emergancy call out. So when the nice fella turned up i explained the problems etc. 1. He diagnosed the exposed cables as an earthing point. He tested the impedance (not...

Major Rewire of My New Flat

The one leaving the side does head towards the meter box i mentioned before so that would make sense from a wire-routing point of view.

Major Rewire of My New Flat

Tried testing the rcd... pressed the putton... NOTHING just a horrible noise and a smell of burning electrics. Not touching THAT again! The two incomers don't meet anywhere as far as i can tell. They go in opposite directions and i'd say it is a rubbery material. The one coming into the...

Major Rewire of My New Flat

Turns out there is an earth rod after all... but it isn't connected to anything!!! There are two earths running into the cu as far as i can tell at the minute. One is connected to the mains gas pipe and the other runs towards the kitchen (not found where it goes yet. The exposed wires are...

Major Rewire of My New Flat

I've just contacted my distribution network and explained the problem. The lady said that she'd arrange for an engineer to come out and look and if one is required fit a proper earth. She said it would cost £31 or something for the installation and ould take 5 to 6 weeks! I'll also...

Major Rewire of My New Flat

they are cotton cables coming from the meter and taped onto the tails! Also i'm 100% that it's underground. The only earthing point i can see is on the mains gas pipe. I need to get under the floor boards to see where everything runs though.
