Was this acceptable practice in a loft space back in 1995?

Would I be allowed under the part P regs to sort this mess out as its an existing installation or does it have to be a sparky? Was thinking of just making a better job of the chockblock connections and using the dragons den chocbox enclosures all located in the loft instead of the bathroom...

Was this acceptable practice in a loft space back in 1995?

Thanks- but its not an add on as I have the original plans and its all standard fit at the initial build. Re joist drilling - Calcs for the right joist allow for some holes for services. If the joists are correct size wise, you will be ok drilling holes of 18mm as required in the centre (of...

Was this acceptable practice in a loft space back in 1995?

Just been up in the loft of our 14 yr old bryant 'executive' build house to change a cold water tank valve. whilst up there I moved some rockwool and found the loft light shorting out intermittently. On closer inspection theres a leash of six cables bound together with yellow tape which are...

    Roofs with condensation

Exactly what I was thinking/referring to and opens up a new can of worms. I wouldn't put plastic membrane over pboard, just use the foil backed stuff if theres plenty of ventilation in the room or just leave it plain and rely on the loft ventilation to get rid of the moisture.

Ventilation gap required between loft insulation and boards?

There seems to be a lot of confusion re boarding of lofts over insulation. A lot of people advise cross battening over the joists leaving a continuous air gap over the insulation for ventilation purposes. Is this now not considered wise?

    Roofs with condensation

Good advice in the first bit, but I would question the last paragraph- What plastic membrane are you referring to or would recommend? Bog standard polythene is virtually impermeable to water vapour and unless it was chemically bonded to the plasterboard you could get water vapour condensing...

Consumer Unit Full - Fitting an RCD or RCBO

Can anyone tell me where I can buy a new MEM A100HE 100A 30mA RCD to fit in a MEM 2000 CU please? Googled it and got sweet FA apart from a few 'used' ones on ebay! Was worried whether they'd be safe to be honest hence the new route. Also would retrofitting RCDpods onto the lighting mcbs...

    Raining inside garage!

Yep looking at that link they don't look very high. A 6inch height as per the two brick dpc rule should be sufficient but I can't find any weblinks to anything suitable. Maybe there's no such thing?

    Raining inside garage!

I wonder if the ones at the foot of this link would be ok? 12 in a row might look odd to the neighbours but if it solves the problem then I don't mind! http://www.leisureshopdirect.com/Caravan/ventilation/Vents_-_miscellaneous.aspx

    Raining inside garage!

Wish I could, but the neighbours garage is joined onto theirs (two detached houses with the linked garages between) and the roof membrane continuous between the two. This problem doesn't happen in the neighbours garage but there looks like theres a slight gradient towards my parents house which...

    Raining inside garage!

Thanks John- yep its definitely from the rockwool as there are no leaks and it only occurs in the warmer months and esp hot days. The temp in the house is always around 25 degrees with them being crazy oldies! ( warm air holds more moisture therefore I presume that the dew point will be reached...

    Raining inside garage!

Thanks Xenon. No the plasterboard isn't foil backed. There is no ventilation space whatsoever up there as the cavity is jampacked with sodden rockwool! The rafters run perpendicular to the side of the house to which the garage is attached and the p/board is just nailed to the rafters with no...

    Raining inside garage!

My parents have had a problem with their garage for the last 5years where it literally rains in the hot weather. The garage is a link type between two detached houses and has a bitumen flat roof in place. The roof appears intact and the join onto the house appears sound with good flashing. The...
