Exactly what I was thinking/referring to and opens up a new can of worms. I wouldn't put plastic membrane over pboard, just use the foil backed stuff if theres plenty of ventilation in the room or just leave it plain and rely on the loft ventilation to get rid of the moisture.

There seems to be a lot of confusion re boarding of lofts over insulation. A lot of people advise cross battening over the joists leaving a continuous air gap over the insulation for ventilation purposes. Is this now not considered wise?

Yep looking at that link they don't look very high. A 6inch height as per the two brick dpc rule should be sufficient but I can't find any weblinks to anything suitable. Maybe there's no such thing?
