    Extension

Do you use that method to close off the cills too? Where the cavity remains open at head height, eg. where a stone head & concrete lintel are used, do you do the same. A poor detail on many new builds, I've noticed.

So why hasn't my house fallen down?

Cos the BC guy says so :D It does seem deep though, is it bad ground or are there trees nearby?

    RSJ Size please.

Two concrete lintels will do. Use 2@ 6"x4" side by side.

Andy Murray-British winner or scottish loser?

Some interesting comments from back in 2011!! US open champ, Olympic gold medal and now the winner of Wimbledon! A superb show of skill and true-grit today. Great stuff. A true British champion for me! :D

    Spalled bricks

Don't worry about it.. It's not an issue. The engineering bricks will act as a DPC anyway.

I haven't had a holiday since 1996, had the odd weekend away in Norfolk or Cornwall but not been abroad mainly because of work, now though we have 3 GSD, a rescued poodle and 8 rescued persain cats, we don't have time to fart but i wouldn't have it any other way, i'd rather the pets be with us...

    How to solve soundproofing challenges?

A few old terraced houses here in Lancs have a 1/2 brick party wall. they're as much use as a chocolate kettle. I've never heard of the joists running through from one house to the next though.. Sounds like you're "up against it" :) Good luck.

Removing bricks from a double skinned garden wall?

Well it certainly won't be as sturdy and safe as the original :) It may be ok but I wouldn't do it myself :D

I can't really grasp what you mean, why not fit a steel lintel over the window, this will then carry the beam under the wallplate?...

Concrete Prices And Whether To Get It Pumped

You seem to be spending time trying to save a few quid on the price of your concrete, then talk about getting a pump. Have you priced that up yet... Pumps are for multi-storey car parks not ground floor extensions :?

    Bituhtene 2000 v 4000. What's the diff ..????

That looks a very interesting project! I'm a bit of a gabion fan too.. As for the bituthene, seeing as how it's protected on both sides by blockwork, surely it can't get damaged and will be certainly "fit for purpose" IMO :)

600mm high retaining wall - very quick question!

The footings sound Ok I'd use 140 blocks, but 100's would probably do. You should be alright without a perforated pipe as long as you use the granular backfill :)

    Transportation of Bricks

A hiab with chains would do. Two short lenghs of scaffold tube shoved through either end of the pallets, then fasten a chain to each end of tube.

    extension cavity tray

Bearing in mind the brickwork is in good order and there are 2 windows above, I wouldn't fit trays, even on my own house. I believe it's too disruptive, and serves no benefit. I was going to make the point about water coming from weepholes myself. Never seen it yet! On a exposed gable end...
