    Flat roof joist design

Thanks for your reply, if you could help with a design I’d be happy to pay you or make a donation to a chosen charity. Got steels in last week and have just got time lines messed up, weather closing in, no roof on the back of the house and I need to get things water tight. Thought we had a...

    Flat roof joist design

Replacing the flat roof on the rear of my property to a warm roof. The window and the patio doors are both full height to joist level so no need for any cavity lintels (confirmed with BC). Does this joist design look sufficient? Thanks!

Timber frame sitting on existing cavity wall up to DPC

It's an old extension, the bricks are indeed 102. I Measured the cavity where the dryer exhaust had been cored out so potentially it's a 40mm cavity and 100mm block; certainly the full width is 240. Cladding will be larch. Timber frame studs 150 x 50.

Brick leafs not lining up for padstone

Thanks Tony - there’s an existing extension on the side of the building making the wall an internal cavity wall so not worried about the above. Had it been an external wall I would hasten to add point #3; a dirty great eye sore on the gable end!

Brick leafs not lining up for padstone

Been onto the SE first thing and he has suggested concrete lintels beneath the pad stone to span the cavity and spread the load onto the outer leaf.

Brick leafs not lining up for padstone

Good morning, thank you both for your replies. Yes our SE has specified a spreader/padstone (440 x 140 x 215). Unfortunately this issue was only just uncovered when we removed the nib and threw a level through the line of the existing brick work. I’ll get on the phone to the SE this morning...

Brick leafs not lining up for padstone

Hello there - I’m currently installing 2 x steels at the back of my house. There is an existing single storey extension, the steels will be opening up the back of the house to fully open plan. The steels will bear on a padstone sat on the inner leaf of the gable end of the house. The issue I...
