    Trapped air in pump!

Hydrogen? Seriously, since when does anyone have hydrogen in their system? If you are referring to the post on this forum about to Hydrogen in CH systems, it was a one off, and we never found out whether it was even actually Hydrogen. For the record, Hydrogen is not found in domestic CH...

Socket working for only some appliances

"The washing machine is not tripping the MCB so it appears not to be overloading the system." And therefore....? Are you having a problem? And what problem? You're post is vague and obscure. What are you telling us (rewrite in clear english)? What are the problems? What are you trying to do...

    I think I've got a leak!

You dont say whether you are actually having any problems. If you definitely aren't, I would suggest you stop worrying. The drip is likely to be just the ball cock not putting enough pressure on the valve. Basically, as the ball cock rises, it presses a washer against a valve. Obviously...

    CH F&E Connection point?

We're not going to start that Hydrogen debate again are we oilman... Did we ever find out whether that guy with "hydrogen" in his system, actually had hydrogen in his system?

    the missus doesn't like silicone

If she doesn't like it, you shoudl tell 'er indoors, to get outdoors, and don't come back in. Seriously though, you can buy proprietary silicone removers, although a bit of scrubbing and scraping usually removes silicone for me. Pop down to your local B£Q... sorry B&Q, and look for a silicone...

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

"Nothing alternates between live and neutral, i.e. their roles never swap." Again, commmunication has broken down. What was indended to say, was that the current flows backwards as it alternates. This means the electric currrent comes into your home through the neutral, and out the live. I...

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

I was just thinking of how many "down to the theory of physics" discussions we have had on this forum lately.... Don't you people have homes....

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

I beg to differ, yankey-sparky. The information supplied would not get anyone hurt. Mainly because it is about the theory of electrics, not a wiring method - and hence, does not involve any dodgy practices. Second, you will in fact find that, in Britain anyway, the live from the power...

    Electric shower query

The temp of the water depends coming out on the temp of the water coming in. It's practically freezing at the moment, and my 9.5kw is at 7. Not the best flow, but enough.

Plastic waste pipes - a lesson

The problem here is there is no "normal" pipe. There are different sizes for solvent and push-fit. "When a problem be here, a compression fitting be near." i.e. use compression when there is a problem with connecting 2 sizes.

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

I think you should cut down on the rhetoric, and actually put forth your own answers. "Phase line alternates between + and - with respect to neutral and earth. why? (i'm not asking, i want you to think about it)" Mainly because transformers only work with AC. "Does the neutral line...

    No problem.

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

Er....no. This makes no sense. By the way, these arguments, as interesting as they are, are irrelevant. Water, or indeed its contents, are not nearly corrsosive enought to produce the amount of gas we are talking about. Water that corrosive would be undrinkable. In fact, if it got on...

    Buzzing plug

Unless you have a clear problem, there probably isn't one. Transformers produce buzz, and this is inevitable. Unless it is very loud. By the way, it does buzz when the shaver is NOT plugged in. Because otherwise, it could be the shaver that's making the noise....

    water problem

You need to go to an english class. Remember, spelling, punctuation, and sentence. You're message has neither of the latter two. Did you tell the plumber you didnt want to know? Or did the plumber tell you he didn't want to know? If the pipe is in concrete, and assuming he did'nt fit it...

    Brown Dirty Hot water

Actually, both tanks are considered "Feed and Expansion" tanks. I assumed you meant your "cold water storage tank" had been replaced. The expansion tank is the one in the loft(usually). The cylinder is the one that holds the hot water. Both contain muck after years of accumulation. If you...

    Buzzing plug

Youre not clear on what a combination light and plug socket is. Do you mean the plug socket lights up? Buzzing is usually an electric fault, unless there is a transformer which produce buzz.

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

Incidentally, this is why electric pylons only carry 3 or 6 live conductors, and 1 earth on top. Because the ground is used as neutral.

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

Again, there is a lack of knowledge of basic physics. If the live is -240v then the neutral is +240v. The reason we do not get shocked by the neutral, is because we arent touching the live. This is in the same way as touching the live does nothing unless you are touching neutral...
