Steam in bathroom - wrong shower head??

It tends to happen in colder weather, more than because of a replaced boiler. Assuming there isnt actually steam coming out of the shower head, which would be a problem, you probably shouldnt worry. Try putting the radiators on in the bathroom - the hotter air will prevent steam forming.

    Brown Dirty Hot water

Basically, turn the boiler off, so the water is not getting heated (so you dont waste gas/electric), and just run the water until it runs clean. Its because few people bother to flush their tanks over the course of its life, so muck accumulates in the bottom of it. When the tank is run dry, the...

Sealing a bath, need good sealant!

Hot tar is a good idea.... but there are better methods. The best thing to do is get a "sanitary" or anti-fungal silicone. Make sure the surface it is applied to is perfectly smooth and clean.... and dry. The best thing to do, is first clean any muck off where it is to be applied. Next get a...

    replacing 8kw shower

Sorry, securespark. Absolutely no implication of dodgy methods was intended. I was saying to all others who try dubious wiring methods for ease, to do it properly. Perhaps my point was unclear. What I was trying to say, is that you shouldn't induce people to push things to their limit, when...

    Boiler, occasional minor explosions!

I think everyone has more or less covered all solutions. But I'd just like to emphasize that an orange flame is very dangerous, and you should turn the boiler off now, and call a pro. By the way, is the 'explosion' a detonation. Or just a whoosh sound. I had a whoosh sound for years on my...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

By the way, it's good to see that, not only is this debate still going without any conclusive facts submitted yet - only grounded theories. But it is also turning people to drink.

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

I was drinking last night, and I'm a bit dehydrated, and I need to add some booze to my alcohol. I mean some water to my alcohol. No wait, I mean some water to my blood.

    constant humming in pipes

A though might be to include more information. Perhaps stating wheter you have checked your boiler for noise (i.e. if its still running due to malfunction). Which pipes emit the noise (i.e. CH, or mains water, or hot water)? Have you tried turning the boiler off at the switch. How loud is the...

Dimmer switch wiring *peace of mind question*

Because of the nature of AC (i.e. alternating current), it does not matter which way around you wire components into the mains. In alternating current, the current actually reverses 50 times a second. This means the neutral is actually the 'live' side for a split second every second. This is...

    replacing 8kw shower

6sqmm cable will do fine for 8.5kw showers, but no more than that. Change the MCB to 40amp too. But, remember what I always say: "why take a chance". If a certain method of wiring is dodgy, be on the safe side, and do it properly. If your worried about, for example, cost of new bigger cable...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

Alright, I'm sorry oilman. Water does react with certain elements. :? Interesting theory. You might like to know that H+ is actually H3O+. It is NOT pure hydrogen. Water does shift between H2O and H+ and OH-, but they soon combine again and do not react with other atoms. On the other...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

Assuming you passed A level, I should take your word for it, that water corrodes. But I'm fairly sure it doesn't without some other chemical; i.e. the chemical that actually makes it acidic. "Water contains an equilibrium concentration of H+ and OH- ions." Until another chemical is added...

    After replacing pump problems occurred

Haha. That hydrogen problem is the least of your worries. No-one on this forum knows whether it is hydrogen, because no-one has ever seen the problem before. So it must be very rare. So dont worry. You have air in the system, because when you do work, air gets in. So you may have to bleed...

    MCB

You really need to be more clear about the job and what you are asking. "At the moment my boiler is in a 32 mcb with 1 socket in my kitchen which i use the kettle, is this ok." Are you saying that 32amp circuit feeds only a boiler and 1 socket for the kettle! It is OK though. "if not i...

I think I'll write the above post again. I have ranted on a bit , and it has lost all meaning. 1. Water alone does not corrode. 2. Acid Basics. When certain substances are added or dissolved into water, it causes acids to be formed. (i.e. Hydrogen Chloride dissolved in water =...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

"I'm not sure who you're referring to" You wrote a message; the one before mine. Although the 'gist' of your message seems to show understanding, you do in fact wildly misunderstand the science. "Water is H2O or H-OH -> giving (H+ plus OH-) which is the basis for corrosion." This does...

URGENT - Hyrdrogn in NEW Central Heat Systm.

Again, I think the problem is your (lack of) attendance at a chemistry class. "General/uniform corrosion is affacted by dissolved oxygen" Yes. "hydrogen ions (H+) & water (OH -ve)" No. You will find that OH- is hydroxide. Not water. "leading to hydrogen gas & mainly ferrous hydroxide...

    Electric shower query

I the summer, my 9.5kw is almost too hot on 1. But by winter, it's donw to number 6 or 7. There is a reduction in flow, but it is still quite good flow.
