Hot water full on to ignite gas

I would suggest you dont do it yourself. I'm sure by working on this particular component you will not, as someone once said, "blow all four walls of the house down", but it is still risky to work on boilers when you dont know what youre doing.

    New Light and new socket

'Inexperienced'? Firstly, do not attempt to learn more. Stop now, before your death. No seriously now. Find a cable for the socket ring main, run it into the loft, attach a socket, and a fused spur for the light. Like ban-all says, using the lighting circuit is a no-no. Upstairs ring...

    TP10 and cable

Sorry, it posted twice. And by the way, paranoia is a good thing with DIY - i have it, and i've never had an accident becuase i'm careful and think things through. Some other people are not like us...

    TP10 and cable

    1. What type of material is TP10? Certain materials leach the PVC (i.e. they destroy the sheathing on the cable by absorbing the plasticiser out of it.) 2. Assuming that it is a safe material for cables to touch, there is no harm in a couple of inches. Either way, consider using conduit...

    Two fuseboards?

Gauge the cost of each option, and choose one (the cheapest) I dont think there are any implications of either option (besides cost)...

    very cold rad

Silence Jo~ker. Obviously you cannot comprehend humour, which contradicts your name. It is about time some people start taking life a bit less seriously. I'm sure oilman meant not to 'bully' her away.

pulsing shower causes my pipes to shake.......

Hard to diagnose really. But at a guess, I would consider the thermo. mixer valve. Perhaps it is malfunctioning. I don't know enough about how they work inside, so I cannot say it is the valve definitely.

Boiler pressure drops to 1 bar each day

"it cannot be gallons as suggested" Exageration. But it still takes a bit of water for it to drop .2bar consistently. Either way, try putting water up to 1.3bar and see if it still drops. "So when the pressure drops to 1.0 bar it is not empty so it only wants the pressure increasing...

Boiler pressure drops to 1 bar each day

'Re-increase'? Do you mean refill. I.e. do you put water into the system, or do you just turn the pressure dial with your fingers... [joke] Assuming that my previous comment was humour, what do you do to 're-increase' the pressure. How do you know there is a leak then if you cant trace...

Black / brown bits in hot water

Possibly some sort of scale buildup that is dispersing?

Boiler pressure drops to 1 bar each day

For a start, does it just drop to 1bar, or does the boiler stop working at 1bar? Secondly, do you keep refilling it? Thirdly, do you know where the water is going (ie. Pressure Relief, or Leaks)?

    Some daft questions...

Sorry, you are correct. I was thinking of the socket and not the plug, and indeed, let alone getting the plug out: how would you get it in - because the pins would just push out of the plug casing.

Yes, we really need more explaination.

Routing shower cable up cavity wall

Oh, heaven forbid, that the cable should get wet... Thats why they use (waterproof) cable sheath. The wall insulation reaction could be a problem though. The best way to do it, is to either chisel out a channel in a wall, or use some trunking - or indeed lift floorboards and run it under...

    Professional inspection

They have special equipment (its just a yellow box, from the one Ive seen), which they plug the appliance into. They test once a year, I think. But forget PAT testing, its not really essential, and like breezer says: "Dont leave anything portable". Simple.

    Tranformer 240v to 12v ?

I do wonder why you want to use a car heater in the house though? Why not just buy a heater that runs off mains voltage? A new heater would proably be cheaper than a transformer anyway.

    GAS - GAS - GAS

So she obviously has more than one appliance, and unless they are all situated around some sort of central chimney, there is probably a fair bit of pipe to replace, assuming he replaces the lot. Either way, unless you want to do the job of perhaps searching all the pipes yourself for a hole...

Wont that, in a single pipe system, just mean there is less hot water to go around altogether?

    circuit consumption calculations

Regarding cable sizes, I think this is a typical example of "why confuse the layman with complex choices?" Just use cable that exceeds the requirement - eg. dont try to save just a few £'s, by using substandardly rated cable for the application at hand. If there is any doubt, like with...
