Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

Regarding te isolator on the meter, they were an attempt to provide a separate isolator to customers, as some DNOs provide. Never seen any restrictions on any of those either

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

Total news to me! The only fuses I know of that have a restriction are 11kV pole mounted ones that are restricted to 315kVA connected transformer capacity

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

He's wrong, you appear to have a TNS earth from the sheath of the DNO incoming supply. Perfectly fine and safe

    Wood baseboards

It has been, perhaps you just don't want to listen to the answers given The board and ALL of its fittings are NOT your property or responsibility. If there is an issue with it you MUST contact the DNO (Northern Powergrid) to inspect and repair it. Or is that you have been illegally...

    Wood baseboards

As stated now by two of us, the meter board is NOT your responsibility. If you have any issues with it contact your DNO and ask them to inspect it and repair it.

    Wood baseboards

If the cut-out & meter are still sttached to the board it is DNO property and should not be interfered with. All boards used by the DNOs are fire resistant

Extension - adding another consumer unit?

Sorry but is that not a bit OTT The house already has a split CU so only one half of it would be lost. By simply adding an RCD protected CU that is reduced to only one third could be lost.

    electric cable size

Though I know it will be said to not meet regulations (really) In the same circumstance I would also consider a high level option with some split concentric. Manufacturer information we have tells us we can span up to 33m at a time which would work in a tree covered area, given that as it is...

    electric cable size

I'm struggling with the generator idea. Is the child expected to operate it and refuel it themselves or is it a case of: - Dad I'm going to the treehouse will you start the generator Dad the generator has stopped, dad finds it needs fuel so has to go for it then finds on his return son has...

Have a look at PV and batteries as used in the caravan industry, lots of purpose made equipment readily available. Whilst heating would be out TV's etc. are possible

Putting a 3-pin plug on my boiler.

Though there was that time we supported an 11kV network by running two 1650kVA sets in parallel with it during a 33kV planned outage. That worked fine, apart from blowing one of the brand new V16 CAT diesels on day 2, and the delivery vehicle losing 1/2 of a trailer axle with wheels when...

Putting a 3-pin plug on my boiler.

Bearing in mind in rural areas the network is HV with small transformers feeding individual or small numbers of properties, so in effect there is no LV network. If you mean connecting to the HV network that opens a huge can of worms with earthing requirements it is not yet something we do (well...

Putting a 3-pin plug on my boiler.

Not really owing to the need to protect LV cables and voltdrop issues. W"e are normally restricted to a maximum lead length of 25m, but can increase it to 50 in some cases. Having said that one site had one 100m long to keep visitors happy. (though the site in question was advised that...

Putting a 3-pin plug on my boiler.

Yep, try running a very rural area for 10 months (Wasdale Head) that was interesting in complaints of noise, all from, as far as we could tell, visitors from urban environments. Though I've got to admit on a quiet day you could hear one or two from quite a distance

Putting a 3-pin plug on my boiler.

The aim since 1st April is to restore supplies within 12 hours, either by repair/reroute or generator. Though in some cases the generator may not allow full capacity.

PV- Is there a business case ?

The voltage limits quoted by Ericmark are not quite correct, nor the effect on other customers (I deal with these issues as part of my duties) I'll find an quote the actual limits the equipment is set to on Monday To the OP To connect more than 4kW you have to apply to your DNO in...

    Another Death in the Home

As far as I could see, the initial report was electric shock or heart attack. By the time our staff got there it had been confirmed as electric shock by medical staff on site

    Another Death in the Home

Reports on our system on a death whilst trying to move a washing machine this morning. Further looking at it also reports a flood in the property as well. Looks like the machine flooded and the incident occured whilst trying to move it without switching power off first.
