Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

Yes it does, it's the customers property so the customer is responsible for it's electrical protection

Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

As the system develops, mainly as the gas supply reduces in the future, there is no knowing what additional equipment the DNOs/Suppliers will need. If space in the cabinets is taken by customers equipment it will lead to immediate problems. That requirement has been in place and accepted since...

Consumer unit next to water pipes/joints?

If that cut-out ever needs changing or worked on, the DNO will point blank refuse and not return until the plumbing (?) is moved. This could leave you without an electric supply until it is done.

    neighbours lawnmower tripping rcd

I came across this some years ago (1980's), where the use of a lawnmower on a church's land was tripping the RCD in a solarium in the large house next door. Overhead network, so we first checked all our kit and all the earthing values (TNCS) We tried everything even down to purchasing and...

Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

I got the impression that the meter to CU tails would be over 3m, so would need a customer's switchgear to reduce their length. Yes here in the 6th post in reply to BAS

Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

Any customer's switchgear should be in a seperate location from the cut-out/meter/isolator. it can either be inside the property or in an adjacent meter cabinet, though this could have a seperate lock fitted

Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

Tampering is an interesting situation. I would suggest it depends more upon the location. The patch I cover possbly sees 2 or 3 cases a year and then where the box door is damaged. Even Manchester sees not much more so I would not class it as a serious risk

Using a private contractor to move gas or electric meter

It is classed as non-contestable work, so your only option is the local DNO to get a quote The only contestable works is the provision of new supplies http://www.dragonis.co.uk/files/What%20is%20contestable%20works.pdf

Using a private contractor to move gas or electric meter

Except the only safe way to do a move such as that is by cutting the cable live and rejointing it to a new piece of cable to the new position. Fine the guy will probably be quite able to do that. But experience shows any cable, joint and termination will not have been paid for i.e. obtained from...

Using a private contractor to move gas or electric meter

http://www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/internet/en/help-and-advice/documents/Did_you_know_you_have_a_choice.pdf Can't see service alts here & in any case the work has to be discussed with the DNO

Using a private contractor to move gas or electric meter

Possibly but Suggests something different. I don't believe service alts are contestable in any case

Using a private contractor to move gas or electric meter

Yes they do it on the qt, totally without permission by the DNO. Risks them being dismissed and the consumer being disconnected But hey if you want to take the risk, best not talk about it on a public forum! Oh and if any of the work is oon the public highway that opens another huge can of...

Relocation of new main supply outside with white cabinet

Yes it is included as information on the detail the reader has, often though it takes some time so on the first reading the reader may struggle. Once it is "found" a MR can update the record themselves

10mm earth cable, outside run colour?

Just picking up on John W2's comment about phase colours there have been a number of variations over the years that we still see in paper cable core colouring! So for the order L1, L2, L3. we see: - R,Y,B. R,W,B, R,G,B, B,G,B. I've even seen B for neutral in cables dating to before WW2

10mm earth cable, outside run colour?

Got to ask though. How many of those in the leave it as it is group would actually, honestly accept a G/Y wire running across their house? Or more importantly who's wife would?

    Mains change

We love the gas meter in front of the cut-out! The customers however get a shock (especially if the main fuse has blown or the cut-out damaged, when we refuse to work in the area until the gas meter is moved.

    Cable failure or me?

You'd be surprised! Actually the Drummond Lamps have a current level of about 3.5 mA so can be used on RCD protected circuits. The later version of the LED is however fitted with additional equipment to prevent phantom voltages appearing, read the spec. An issue we found on a couple of jobs. (we...

    Cable failure or me?

As an industry we are not allowed to prove live or dead other than with a two terminal test lamp http://martindale-electric.co.uk/drummond-test-lamps-c-250.html Even the use of a meter is not permitted

Fuse in Red Fuse Link Holder

The meter operatives are generally trained and authorised by their own employer, it would not surprise me that their own folk don't know or understand how the network operates or the issues they face
