Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

The requirement would be for it to be .45m underground and finishing in a vertical section below where the cut-out would be, certainly surface fixing would not be permitted apart for a short vertical section below the cut-out

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

100% chances are you will be required to install a 32mm duct from outside to the new position, DNOs cannot joint cables in a property to extend them.

Exterior electric meter box - mandatory?

On an existing house it isn't mandatory (well in this DNO) to have outdoor viewing installed. If the meter is staying in the same location and just the supply to it being moved as long as the cable can be properly routed to that location there should be no problem

    Please Mr, is this safe?

[/img] I mean it's fed from here [/img] and it's only used to grow & dry a few plants [/img] Found in a nice 6 bed house in a local town that had been rented out while the owner was working out of the country. A couple of hours in there got me feeling a bit...

    Electricity Explosion

If you've ever wondered on the sort of explosion you can get from the DNO system http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-northamptonshire-33006500 That is an LV underground connecting box failing! And on the overhead system this still happens...

    Supply fuse

Some instructions we work under to pondor Looking at the photos it looks as if it is quite possible that the one shown may be of a type we are not permitted (this DNO) to work upon whilst live IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, as the hinged cover looks to be removable! These cut-outs are all...

    Supply fuse

He has already admitted to opening the metal cover, he has already suggested that the fuse will be pulled to do the CU change. He has already stated that the tails will be changed by possibly entering the meter connections. I would rather he gets used to the fact that he or an electrician...

    Supply fuse

Please read that very carefully! You are not trained You are not legally authorised You will not have the appropriate protective equipment You do not know what hazards to look for To be allowed to open or work within that cut-out. Once the fuse is removed it WILL expose a live terminal...

They do not specifically need to be authorised to fit it! They do not specifically need to be authorised to notify the DNO The notification to the DNO must be made within 28 days of installing the equipment.

It can be interesting what you discover!

That seems to make a perverse sense. Though a lot of installations are far from professional looking with zero after service of knowledge regarding standards

It can be interesting what you discover!

It is often commented on in this site that fitting Solar or other generation must only be done by an approved person, as for no other reason the DNOs will not accept notification from, say, an unapproved DIYer There is no requirement for this, a DIYer is allowed to install a solar system...

It can be interesting what you discover!

Whilst investigating a query from a house that has solar panels relating to the voltage I came across some interesting facts in an ENA document. The document is the Electricity Network Association recommendation (GS 83 Recommendations for the Connection of Type Tested Small Scale (Up to 16A...

Selling house - required to replace old iron cut-out?

It is actually within our Jointing Code of Practice to fit isolators for all supplies that we work on. i.e. New, moved or cut-out changes It may not apply to all DNOs

Selling house - required to replace old iron cut-out?

A bit confused by that! The DNO will change their cut-out when convenient to them as there is nothing anywhere that says they must be changed. They may increase the size of the earthwire from their cable to the earthing terminal, but that is all. Any other earths are the customer's...
