    Static caravan electrical question

A static should normally be supplied from a 32A circuit anyway. The 16A is generally for touring caravans which are much smaller

Power to remote garage - conduit and cable and feasibility

Interestingly at a commercial level the Construction Design & Management Regulations do try to achieve these aims. Trouble is, as far as I've seen, some of those involved just ain't got it yet!

    iboost solar installation

Assuming that the supply to the unit comes from the switch with the yellow cable leaving it and that the electricity is dead here. that switch must be fed from a fuse at some location so that is possibly what you need to find

Power to remote garage - conduit and cable and feasibility

The 450mm matches the recommended depth of DNO LV cables, this depth has been the case for many years 600mm matches the recommended depth for HV cables 1000mm is the depth we would lay in farm land. Though the routes of DNO cables are also recorded and available. Interestingly I've...

how are houses connected to the substation transformer

It can be either, most joints can be for up to 4 separate service cables, also in some areas one service can go into a house then another service cable can be looped out of there to a property next door. The loop is done on the bottom side of the DNO cut-out

how are houses connected to the substation transformer

Yes you are right on the red coloured cables. The various boxes will be HV switchgear, transformer and LB cabinet. Which as you noticed has 2 large black cables coming out to the various streets. These are 3 phase cables of up to 300mm2 per phase, the size dependent on load and voltdrop...

    Power to outside lamp post

I'm talking about the underground section, where SWA is being recommended as the only way. The cable I mean does not need earthed steel protection when backed by a fuse up to 630A on a DNO network so it shouldn't need it in a domestic situation!!

    Power to outside lamp post

Yep that one that the DNOs have been using for years that complies with legislation

    Lost in translation????

Or just use the one used by the whole supply industry in Europe - yep that's right http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2002/2665/schedule/1/made We just add the words Keep Off or Keep Out in the size specified in the regulations

    Power to outside lamp post

Or put the flex in earthed galvanised metal conduit! (there is another cable that could be used but it seems folk are scared to use it in case it does not meet reguations!!

    When was it 440 volt?

Interestingly all new transformers come with a 250V (single phase) secondary. (or 250/433 for 3 phase units) And have done for many years back to the older BEBS T1 spec and the more modern ES I35/1 spec) When commisioning on large networks we do have to take into account keeping within limits...

    Lost in translation????

Nice Particularly when the wording should possibly be "Danger of Death - Keep Off (or out)" Solar farms will usually output to the DNO at 6.6 or 11kv. though we have just had one connected at 33kV The control figure is the maximum load and the capacity of the local networks. We have...

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

The realities of the different parts of the industry are quite a surprise, considering we all deal with the same product! On the DNO side working live at LV on cables or lines is the norm, No switches so fuses up to 630A can be removed underload. If needed supplies can be made dead or...

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

At LV if the operation is completed quickly, there is little risk of arc and subsequent damage. Certainly all the equipment we use is rated for these operations

Is my electric contractor correct. Pics. Worried.

In that one case we do not open them above that load owing the the risk that any arc could contact earthed metalwork. It makes quite a flash & bang (and that was on one feeding about 150kVA!) This is from Aus, but something like these, this was trying to close onto a fault as well...
