    Engine cutting out

Its an R reg 1997 John, you seem to be a man of many talents! I'm just looking at your magnaclean photos in the heating and plumbing forum! Your theory seems to accord with what a friend suggested.. that it might be a sensor not doing it's job properly? What will smelling the exhaust...

    locating central heating pump

The Magnaclean sounds like a really good system. And yes, it would be really good to find some drain valves for the rads. My rads all look like this at the twin-entry end and this at the other end Any suggestions anyone?

    locating central heating pump

Thanks for that advice. Interesting what you say about the X400. I actually bought some of that, but then realised it would be difficult to get out of the system again.... all my downstairs rads are twin-valve systems fed from upstairs and without any draincocks, making it impossible (I...

    locating central heating pump

Thanks Nickso, :) no I'm not a gambling man, and I'm not a risk assessor either... but I guess if I was, I would need to know the price of the two options (relatively straightforward) and the probability that the first would fail (less obvious) and then I'd have some sort of answer...

    locating central heating pump

Yes, the engineer seemed to very competent and was honest and upfront about the situation. I'm still in dilemma about what is the greater risk.... the risk that £850 of remedial work will have no effect or make matters worse... or the risk that the many thousands of pounds (I'm guessing at this...

    locating central heating pump

I've had engineer in to look at the problem now and he has quoted for reconfiguring pipes so that the feed from expansion tank does not join the return to boiler but joins just before the pump which lies on the feed side of the boiler (2 hours work apparently, which sounds OK to me)...

    locating central heating pump

Hmm... that's bad news especially since I have microbore pipes on all the radiators! Yes, time to get a heating engineer in. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks for the quick reply! You say it can very quickly degrade... you means since the start of the overheating and overflowing problem?

    locating central heating pump

I wonder whether anyone can help me? I have a gas central heating boiler that was installed about 4 years ago. It has recently been cutting out when it should be on (ie thermostat and time set correctly) . I have been advised by a heating engineer that it may be overheating due to having too...

    draining twin-valve radiator

Thanks very much. I get the picture... oh dear, this is going to be much more complicated than I had originally thought.. A couple of days ago I thought draining the system would just take half an hour... until I discovered this minor detail with the downstairs radiators.. On a different but...

    draining twin-valve radiator

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes, I am pretty sure.. and in any case there would have to be one on all the radiators I think as they are all fed independently from above? Can you tell how easy the draining would be from this photo? [/img] Mike

    draining twin-valve radiator

Hi, I have an open vented, fully pumped gas central heating system which makes a lot of noise. I've been advised that I should flush the system with some sludge remover which will require me to drain the system. The problem is that the feed and return pipes on all my downstairs radiators...
