    Extending SWA

I popped around to the guys place to have another look and the sparky guy was there wiring some new thing. I mentioned that I have an identicle job to do to the one I pointed out to him and I asked him about using glands in an adaptable box instead. He said you could but why go to the...

    Extending SWA

From the look of it, it's 16mm. The plan I stated was identicle to an installation I saw a month ago installed by pro's so I thought if thats the way they did it, I'll do the same.

    Extending SWA

I need to move an outbuilding cu atleast a metre further from the door as I need to increase the size of the entrance door. To move the cu that little bit, the swa will not reach the new location so I was planning to run the swa as far as I can along the wall and then join it in an enclosure...

    RCD protection for TT system

've heard quite a few folk give off about Volex CU's being rubbish. Why is that anyhow? Is it the quality of the plastic etc or is there alot of probs with the MCB's and so forth? I'm a Hager user btw.

    CCTV

What's the type of cable that can supply 12v DC power and the return video feed in one which does away with two cables (power+video)? I had a sparky out wiring CCTV in some of my outbuildings using camera's more or less identical to the above and he ran just a single video cable to each...

    Busbar Protection Cover

I've got a few metres of 16mm laying about so I will do just that.

    Busbar Protection Cover

Cheers for that. A profile that slides over the busbar would do the job. It's like most places now-a-days, the folk behind the counter don't know much and their only purpose is to get the stuff and work the till.

    Busbar Protection Cover

I've got two brand new Hager CU's which I've had now for a few months which were given to me as they were left behind after some big job about a year ago. Anyhow, I want to use one and even though they came with no busbar, I have a busbar that will fit the bill. Is it a must to have a...

Where can one get one of these?

I've managed to find one at RS which is more or less identical. Important details on the capacity is the same such 450v 35uf etc and its wired for a motor. Hopefully I'll have it tomorrow and see how it goes.

Where can one get one of these?

RS was the first place I tried but it's out of action for a while. Just looking for alternatives if they don't have one when they are back up and runing. PS- Mine has 2 leads. It's just a shadow in the pic that makes it look like a third. :)

Where can one get one of these?

I'd rather get a replacement capacitor as the unit is bolted down and connected into watersupplies and I got it about 45 miles away. Knowing my luck they wouldn't replace it anyhow. I'll look into those places mentioned. Hopefully they aren't that expensive.

Where can one get one of these?

Not sure what the proper name is, maybe its a capacitor. Anyhow, I've pulled this from the electrical control unit that powers a high powered powerhose. Somehow water got into the control box and filled it with water blowing this item, spliting it in two. Is there somewhere online...

    Mixing cable sizes

Thanks for the tips Lectrician. Using Gewiss/Saip boxes when more room is required but some sparky's said they were a bad idea as the tops pop off easily and are not as weatherproof as your standard conduit box with rubber gasket etc. I find them great for their job though and the lids...

    Mixing cable sizes

Cheers for that Andy. It's just that I was puzzled to why lower rated flex was used in the other installations wired by a Pro. Thanks for the reply.

    Mixing cable sizes

Nope, its mine and I will be doing so anyhow. I thought if the circuit was wired using 1.5mm² then in my case the flex should be 1.5mm².

    Mixing cable sizes

I'm wiring a large building using conduit and singles and at various conduit/termination boxes I will be running a foot or so of 3-core flex from it to a 100w light out side. For example I've one circuit with two 100w lights on it since I'm using 1.5mm² singles, should the flex also be...

Oil Burner Fails to start in cold weather.

The odd thing is, I don't have any readings to give you and don't remember the guy giving me any such readings. A friend gave me the number of a guy that services them whom is very well respected in the area so I'm going to arrange a service. I will take a look at the feed from the tank to...
