RCD trips when shower is turned on

Thanks for the reply. I'll get him back to take a look. Just out of interest, what could explain this... When we found the problem this is exactly what happened: 1 - Pull double pole switch, red light on. Turn shower on. RCD trips. 2 - Ditto. Same again 3 - Red light on double pole...

RCD trips when shower is turned on

Ok it's got worse... Now the RCD doesn't even trip anymore. It's as if there's no power there at all. Now this is the complicated/interesting part. The electrician wired two flats for the shower, and now the new shower circuits on both flats appear not to have any power. Also, where I...

RCD trips when shower is turned on

Had an electric shower installed two days ago. Before the shower was plumbed in the electrician came and wired the shower unit. 10mm cable with a Contactum shower RCD and a new 45amp cartridge fuse on my very old Wylex unit. Anyway, I plumbed in the water to the shower today and went to test...

Connecting Shower inlet to Hep20 / Plastic

Just used the olive that came with the fitting. Should I undo the fitting now and change the olive or is it best to see if the leak will heal itself? But I did use the insert sleeve in the Hep though. Simon.

    Bad consumer unit wiring

Ok the electrician has been and gone. Turned into a two day job! What he did was run 30m of cable up to our flat drilling 34cm deep holes through our concrete walls (and nipped our hall light cable in the process!!). At the CU there was one 45amp cartridge fuse already there for an unused...

Connecting Shower inlet to Hep20 / Plastic

Okay I've used a brass compression fitting. Now it's weeping at the join to the Hep20...hehe Simon.

Connecting Shower inlet to Hep20 / Plastic

How do I connect my Hep20 pipe to the inlet of my shower? The Triton shower manual says that when connecting to plastic pipe a pushfit fitting must not be used. It goes on to insist on a brass compression fitting. I can't believe that it's better for me to use a brass compression fitting...

    Heavy Shower screen on Plasterboard??

But do you think the plasterboard can hold all that weight?

    Bad wiring

I've just changed the extractor fan in my bathroom. The wire from the wall surprised me...I know nothing about wiring but is this normal? The wire looked like this: The three wires were connected to neutral, live, and switched live. The switched live was connected to the unshielded...

    Heavy Shower screen on Plasterboard??

I've just purchased a very heavy shower screen for our bathroom... I think it must be 15kg!! I've got some great plasterboard plugs but I'm really worried that the screen may pull the plasterboard off! The screen gets a bit of support from where it touches the bath but it's still a huge...

Taking mains pipe off water tank?

Or maybe a better question is... (assuming that there's no problems taking the mains from here)...if I use Speedfit or Hep20 15mm equal tee, how should I cut the copper? Just one cut through the copper pipe and then simply push it in the pushfit Tee, or should I take some more of the copper...

Taking mains pipe off water tank?

My plumber has told me he can pipe in an electric shower using the mains that feeds my cold and hot water tanks: The flat I live in has an Elson twin storage unit, and it seems when the property was built the installers didn't realise that my flat happens to have an accessible loft area...

    Shower thoughts

Power showers have a pump built into the shower unit. The alternative is a mixer shower and a seperate pump. Question for you: From what I've read, a shower pump will pump upwards something like 40 feet (my understanding anyway). A power shower, which like you I thought was more or less...

    Shower thoughts

I'd rather not turn the thread into a discussion of something I can't do, but would prefer to talk about options that are available to me. The CUs are outside...running a cable through down three flats isn't going to happen. Talk to me about my other options!!

    Shower thoughts

I want to install a shower in my bathroom for the first time. An electric shower is sadly out of the question according to my electritian (bad wiring). We have a slightly unusual system as the cold water tank and the hot water tank are next to each other, as we live in a flat. This means we...

    Bad consumer unit wiring

The flats are leasehold, but unfortunately (or fortunately?) the management of the flats is controlled by the flat owners as a collective. This means the bare minimum is spent on the upkeep, so no chance of getting it all rewired on any regultions basis. In answer to ban-all-sheds, funnily...

    Bad consumer unit wiring

Here's a picture: Within the CUs the fuses are labelled: Immersion, Lights, Sockets, Spare. Since we don't have the immersion heater connected anymore, is it possible to use the wiring for the new electric shower?? Simon.
