    Soak Away

Forgot to mention, we have the downpipe from the roof about 10 feet away from the soakaway, can we just redirect the pipes into that ? I don't know where that soakaway goes, probably into the other neighbors garden.

    Soak Away

Can I get someone like the local council building regs involved, or will they not be interested ? The conservatory has been up for about 6 months, will the footings have suffered any damage in this time or will they be ok ? Thanks for all your guys info on this one, much appreciated.

    Soak Away

I believe that the footings are about 18 inches or so, not sure how deep the soakaway was, but the footings will not be deeper than the soakaway. If the conservatory company will not relocate the soakaway, is there anything I can do to make them ? Thanks for all your advice Richard

    Soak Away

Hello All, A bit of advice if I may. Our house was build around 1985, our next door neighbors garage roof drains off into a soak away in our garden which was about 4 metres from the rear of our house. You can see where the soak away was as the lawn has sunk a little. Now, we had a...

    Combi Boiler Problem

Tony, Thanks for that bit of information and you could probably be right. We have our en-suite gutted at the moment as I am in the process of replacing it all and the hot and cold feeds to the WC, sink and shower are capped off. So that could be where the air pocket is. I presume then...

    Combi Boiler Problem

Hi guys, A quick bit of advice or your thoughts if I may. We have a 15 year old Vaillant combi boiler which is working pretty much ok, has a few minor glitches every so often, but in the whole it is ok. Over the last fortnight I have noticed something strange happening. When we turn on a...

    Draining Central Heating System

Thanks for the info, there is indeed a filling loop under the boiler. I am going to replace the faulty rad's upstairs at the same time as draining the system. This may also make putting the inhibitor into the system easier. If I get any problems, I will drop a post. Thanks again for your...

    Draining Central Heating System

Hi Slugbabydotcom, The system is a pressurised system. I presumed as much with the rad's upstairs, and as they are the cheap older models with the valves at the back, they cannot be replaced, so I will have to replace the rad's. Regards Richard

    Draining Central Heating System

Hi guys, I am redoing our bathroom and have remove all the fixtures including the rad. There is going to be a towel radiator installed instead of the rad and the valves need changing. Therefore, I presume that I will need to drain the system to facilitate the removal of the valves. I think...

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

Don't start fighting guys !!! I am not sure what to do now, British Gas engineers do not give me much enthusiasm, however, i am paying them an annual fee to keep my boiler working. Or, should I bite the bullet and get a decent boiler engineer in to take a look. I don't know...

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

The British Gas engineer replaced the unit because the pin wasn't moving correctly because of a buildup of limescale.

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

I am pretty sure that the microswitch was not changed as part of the unit replacement. The British Gas engineer changed the unit that has the 4 or more pipes coming out of it. This part is all nice and shiny and new. The microswitch is still covered in fluff and dust so looks to me like it...

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

Sorry guys, excuse my ignorance. It sounds like the servo, the bit in the center of the boiler that has a piston that rises the more the hot water tap is opened. This server has an arm on the top that presses against a microswitch to the left of the unit. This is the switch that when you push it...

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

Looking from the front of the boiler, the microswitch is just to the left of the actuator coming up from the diverter vavle

Vaillant VCW 242e Domestic Hot Water problem

We have had an intermitent problem with our 15 year old Vaillant boiler for several months. Some days we cannot get domestic hot water out of the system. You can hear the pumps or something fire up in the boiler and a clicking sound but it does not fire. Other days it will be fine. We have had...

    Combi Boiler - Help !!!!!!!!!!!

To loose that pressure so quickly you must have a leak somewhere, I cannot believe that it is simply air in the system. Do any of the CH pipes go underground or in the floors especially in the ground floor where water leaks under the floor are harder to spot. Air should not be getting into...

    Combi Boiler - Help !!!!!!!!!!!

It maybe a faulty pressure vavle, we had the same problem a few months back. Been working fine for years and then all of a sudden, all pressure went. On investigating outside the pressure overflow pipe was dripping, not much, but enough to drop the pressure. However, it may be a leak...
